The future of the NBA is in good hands. The 2023 season is about to start in less than 3 weeks. With LeBron James set to take the stage for his 21st year in the NBA to further cement his legacy, a new batch of rookies are also looking forward to making their mark. The preseason games are a great area for the players to get into motion and get ready for the regular season.

One of the most anticipated debuts was that of San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama. Fans were not disappointed, as the 7-foot-4-inch-tall rookie blew them away with his electrifying performance. This led the Boston Celtics legend to share a video of him on social media to let fans know about his debut.

But what was more exciting was watching Wembanyama go up against the former #2 pick, Chet Holmgren. Chet did not play his rookie year after suffering a foot injury in 2022 during a Pro-Am game.

So this will be the rookie season for Holmgren as well. But the one everyone is looking at is Wembanyama. The Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett shared an edit of Victor going up against Chet and dominating. Wembanyama was seen doing everything. In the video, he did a pump fake to send Luguentz Dort flying. Another one was him getting a dunk off a fast break with Holmgren chasing him. But the one that got everyone excited was Wembanyama driving through the lane against Chet and scoring through contact. After the play, Wembanyama was seen flexing, and this hyped up the fans.

Garnett wrote in the video, “First of many… Let the fun begin.”

Garnett has already been rooting for the young star. He gave advice to the rookie after struggling in his preseason debut. Once Wembanyama put on more muscle with his incredible workouts, Garnett shared his praise for him on social media.

Chet Holmgren will surprise a lot of people

Even though the media and fans focused more on Wembanyama, and rightfully so, Chet Holmgren was also extremely good in his preseason match. In the 2022 draft, Holmgren was in a close race for the number one pick against Paolo Banchero. Having his injury and not playing the 2022–2023 season has made a lot of people forget about how good Holmgren was in college.

Holmgren is 7’2 and has a similar playstyle to Wembanyama. In the match, Wembanyam scored 20 and Holmgren scored 21 points. Holmgren will also be in consideration for Rookie of the Year along with the rest this season. After getting flexed on by Wembanyama, Holmgren later posted on Twitter that ‘the headbutt is an unstoppable move fosho”.
