Cade Cunningham made a huge splash in the Detroit Pistons season opener against the Miami Heat. He only played 12 games in the 2022?2023 season as he underwent surgery for an injury he suffered. But his return after one year has impressed the Pistons legend.

Isiah Thomas has high hopes for Cade

Cunningham scored 30 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds in his first regular-season game back from injury. Even though the Pistons lost the match, Cunningham joins Isiah Thomas as the only other player in Piston’s history to have such a stat line on the season opener.

Thomas said, “He will be on that Olympic team. Because he is that kinda leader. He is that type of person.“

Isiah Thomas believes in Cade. He feels like Cade will be able to lead the team to new heights. For Monte Williams, Cunningham is the best player to have on your team, according to Isiah Thomas. Cunningham is special, and he knows what needs to be done to win.

This is huge, as it is coming from Isiah Thomas, who was also the leader of the Detroit Pistons back in the day. He sees the vision and understands what the team can be in a few years once Cade has figured everything out.

Cade Cunningham has so much to prove

As their star player, Cade Cunningham, went down with an injury early in the past season, there was not much left for the team to do. The Pistons ended the season with the worst record in the league and Cunningham played only 12 games. He averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists before having his stress fracture. Even though Cunningham was the first pick in the 2021 draft, there are still doubts in the minds of the people.

He has not yet reached his true potential. As Isiah Thomas said, Cade is a leader. With new additions to the team like Ausar Thompson and second-year player Jalen Duran, the Pistons are bound to take a leap this year. The team got their first win of the season yesterday against the Hornets. With the players around him improving along with him, Cade will also get better. Soon the Pistons will be a threat to everyone.
