Over the last few years, Michael Jordan‘s ex-wife has embraced a new role. Juanita Vanoy is finally investing in her dream of owning a business in her name. Vanoy got married to MJ in 1989 and they parted ways in 2006. Their divorce settlement was a record at the time and to this day, is one of the biggest divorce settlements in the world.

However, after all of that, Vanoy had the dream to run her own business but couldn’t do it because of family responsibilities. After all three of her kids became adults, she started working toward her longtime dream. Vanoy now runs a successful boutique and is also a Broadway producer.

Michael Jordan’s ex-wife owns a luxury clothing boutique

Vanoy met Jordan when he was playing for the Chicago Bulls. Since then the two remained together throughout his career and had three kids. However, she filed for divorce back in 2002 after MJ came out of retirement to play in the league once again. Soon the two sorted out their differences and reconciled their marriage. This continued for the next four years when in 2006, the couple finally separated in a record-breaking divorce settlement. Jordan remarried in 2013 when he tied the knot with Yvette Prieto.

Vanoy said during an interview in 2013 that she always wanted to become an entrepreneur. She said, “I thought I’d open my own business. But it was important for me to remain in my kids’ lives as much as possible, even through college. And that required a lot of time.” Despite her habit of keeping a low profile, Vanoy ventured into starting her own business later. Now she is a proud owner of a luxury clothing boutique where she sells designer clothing, handbags, shoes, belts, and jewelry. In addition to that, last year she was a co-producer for a Broadway show Some Like It Hot.

What happened between Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy?

A lot has been said about their marriage, especially because of the $168 million settlement following their divorce. However, the two had differences in the marriage from the very beginning. Jordan, during an interview with People, said, “I’m more down-home Southern, Juanita’s more city-like. When my good friends come up from North Carolina, I don’t mind having them stay over and sleep on the floor — that’s a Southern attitude. But Juanita believes that these are grown men now. She’ll say, ‘Make sure they get a hotel.”

While Vanoy wanted to go out more, Jordan had lost interest in doing so. In addition to his ‘Southern attitude’, the fact is that for a superstar of his stature, it’d have been tough to go out without being noticed.
