After 19 years in the league, Andre Iguodala announced his retirement. He has spent the majority of his career with the Golden State Warriors. They made countless deep playoff runs and have gone up against some of the best the sport has to offer. But when asked to name his favorite players, he surprisingly did not include the baby-faced assassin.

But why did Iguodala leave Stephen Curry off his list? They spent years together. Or was it because they spent so many years together that he left him off the list?

Andre Iguodala gives his top 5 list

Andre Iguodala recently joined Evan Turner on the Point Forward podcast. During their conversation, Turner asked Iguodala about his favorite players that he played or went up against.

When asked for his top 5, Iguodala gave his top 6 instead. But he left out his teammate, with whom he won four championships.

Iguodala said, “I got six, my favorite guys. I am not going to add Steph“. He left Stephen Curry out of his life and revealed his players. He could not pick just five players and said two players were tied for the fifth spot.

It’s safe to assume that anyone would know that Curry would be at the top of his list. Since it was so obvious, he decided to just name the rest and give out his list as follows:

1. Kobe Bryant
2. Carmelo Anthony
3. Kevin Durant
4. LeBron James
5. Kyrie Irving
6. Paul Pierce

Kyrie and Pierce were tied for the same spot. Giving praise to Carmelo Anthony and Pierce is not something we usually see nowadays. Both were two of the best at their peak and could score a bucket any time they wanted.

Stephen Curry sacrificed for Andre Iguodala

Back in 2017, Stephen Curry was up for a contract extension, and the Warriors offered him the biggest contract in the NBA at the time. But Curry was not sure about it. He wanted to re-sign players like Andre Iguodala and Shawn Livingston and was ready to take less money for the team.

The Warriors system is built around sacrificing for your team. Curry and Iguodala lived that role to the fullest. In Philadelphia, Iguodala was one of the best players on the team. Once he joined the Warriors, he took a lesser role on the team for his teammates.
