Michael Jordan embedded his legacy in every corner of his golf course

Grove XXIII is located in a remote area of Hobe Sound, Florida. It is Michael Jordan‘s exclusive golf course and club, accessible to other people only via an invitation. The Golf Course in itself wasn?t the only impressive thing about Grove XXIII. The 15,000 square foot club accommodates locker rooms, lounge areas and dining facilities. It’s also marked with Jordan?s presence in every corner of the interior.

From customized Ice Cubes containing the ?Air Jordan? symbol to the shape of the overhanging roof, the designer made use of various references to solidify Jordan?s dominance in the minds of the visitors.

Bobby Weed, the golf course designer, decided to make something that would serve as a reminder of His Airness‘ legacy to everyone who played on it. He created six man-made lakes to symbolize the six championships that Michael Jordan won with the Chicago Bulls,

Most of these additions were in part due to the micromanagement of Jordan himself. According to Igor Reyes, the planning and design partner, MJ made his job somewhat easier. ?He was involved with a lot of the decisions ?We didn?t change a color without him knowing.?

?It?s ?I just want this? and sort of like, ?get out of the way.? But he realized there was a lot of creativity going on and he wanted to be a part of it,? Reyes added during the conversation.

Igor Reyes used a unique method to convince MJ

Despite not having any prior experience with golf courses, Igor Reyes wanted the contract to build Grove XXIII?s clubhouse. In order to beat the competition, he adopted a different strategy. Reyes wanted to differentiate his idea from the typical clubhouse.

The designer expressed his opinion of building the place in a shape that one could feel ?swinging across the landscape?. In the pitch video, Reyes compared the shape of his proposed building to that of a ?machine-like? golf swing.

The move impressed Jordan.? He decided to give the contract to Reyes and his firm right then and there. The enthusiasm displayed by the six time NBA champion was enough to convince Reyes that his new client was not like others.

?This isn?t just a guy with a lot of money that wants to do something. This guy knows what he?s doing, he knows what he likes, and how to get to it.?
