Marc Gasol has become the only second player from the Memphis Grizzlies to have his jersey number retired. Grizzlies opted to retire his number 33 jersey in the Grizzlies vs Philadelphia 76ers post-game ceremony. The wishes had already started pouring in for the 2019 NBA champion ahead of the ceremony. The Houston Rockets’ star Dillon Brooks also congratulated his former teammate from the Grizzlies, while revealing the nickname Marc gave him.
“What’s up, Mark? It’s your boy DB. Been a minute since I seen you, but, you know, congratulations on getting your number retired. And I’ll never forget, you know, my whole rookie year when you were calling me a fool the whole time. Never said my name once,” Brooks stated in a video message. He further highlighted in the message that Marc Gasol sharpened him as a basketball player. “So, you know, I appreciate you and enjoy your night,” he said.
