While engagement and wedding rumors swirl, on one hand, Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen talk about divorces. And they’ve seen their share of messy divorces. Larsa Pippen’s marriage with Scottie Pippen ended quite bitterly with a massive divorce settlement. Moreover, Marcus has seen his parents, Michael Jordan, and Juanita Vanoy, have an expensive end to their marriage too. Which makes both of them wary about protecting their individual assets.

Larsa and Marcus have previously been vocal about the importance of a prenuptial agreement. They revived the subject again this week on Separation Anxiety. Marcus’ take on prenups might reflect the lesson he’s learned to see his parents’ bitter separation.

It’s been a crazy week for Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen. After a date night in LA, the couple was swept up in engagement and wedding rumors. They’d put the rumors to rest this week on Separation Anxiety before talking about divorces.

The subject stemmed from Britney Spears and Sam Asghari divorcing after 14 months of marriage. Larsa seemingly didn’t see the marriage working out from the start. Their divorce is set to become complicated as a prenup between Spears and Asghari guarantees the Pop Princess wouldn’t have to pay her soon-to-be ex-husband spousal support.

Larsa believes Asghari will contest the prenup to get alimony. She doesn’t think he has a winning chance. Pippen would know. She got half of Scottie Pippen’s retirement fund in a settlement. The NBA champion tried to contest the prenup, but his case didn’t stand.

Marcus also believes the prenup will protect Britney. “Divorces can get messy.” And he hoped he’d never get to that point with Pippen. Whatever happens, he believes the prenup should be honored. “I think prenups exist for a reason. Unless there is a breach of an agreement, or some sort of clause both parties mutually agreed to gets  breached, then the prenup should be enforcing.”

His opinion is pretty conscious. After all, his father learned from the past and underscored his current marriage with a prenup too.

Michael Jordan’s prenuptial insurance

Michael Jordan married Juanita Vanoy in 1989. They have three children: Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine. Jordan and Vanoy would split up in 2006 but it was the divorce settlement that became a huge topic.

They didn’t have a prenup and it cost the freshly retired NBA pro. Jordan had to pay his ex-wife, $168 million in divorce settlement. It became the biggest celebrity divorce settlement at that time and remains one of the most expensive celebrity divorces in history.

‘His Airness’ moved on with the model, Yvette Prieto. They began dating in 2011 and married in 2013. But not without the billionaire protecting his assets. He insisted on a prenuptial agreement with Prieto which would protect both of them.

According to this prenup, if they separate, Prieto will get $1 million for every year they are married. If they hit the 10-year mark, she’d get $5 million for every year. So far there’s no reason for this prenup to be enforced.

Larsa and Marcus are on the same page that they, too, would absolutely sign a prenup. However, they don’t want to get to the point of divorce as messy as they’ve witnessed already.
