Kobe Bryant is one of the most competitive players in the history of sports. He is disciplined and often does anything and everything to get a competitive edge over his opponents. When it was time for him to face Tony Parker, the Laker legend wanted something to get under Parker’s skin, and he chose Parker’s own language as the right path for doing so.
The 5x champion learned French just so he could talk trash to Parker on the basketball court in his own language and throw him off his game. To this day, it still remains one of the most creative acts done during a sporting event, until recently, when Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf took it one step further.

Is Metcalf’s celebration similar to the Kobe Bryant act?
Although the level of dedication required to prove a point is unmatched by both players, their acts are extremely different. When Kobe Bryant learned French, he did it just so he could annoy Tony Parker, as he was able to understand what Kobe was saying.
In Metcalf’s case, it is more on the fun side, as most people in the crowd will have no idea what he said. But when they finally realize what he was showing, it just means that he is doing what he had to do. So although both are extremely innovative, they are not the same in regard to what they wanted to achieve.
