Dwyane Wade was at the Utah Jazz’s home, the Delta Center last night. And so were numerous excited fans. It has been a historic week in Salt Lake City. And as a minority owner in the Utah Jazz ownership group, Wade couldn’t miss it. He was also accompanied by his friends. However, it wasn’t for an NBA game. The 3x NBA champion traveled to Utah to witness the newly established Utah Hockey Club in some preseason NHL action.

The Flash shared a selfie with his friends from the Delta Center, posting it on his Instagram with the caption, “In Our Hockey era.” Sure, it is! The excitement among the fans hasn’t gone unnoticed by the players either. His friend and business partner, Chris Johnson, also posed for a photo alongside Wade.

The 42-year-old must have worked as a lucky charm as the UHC won 3-2 against the Los Angeles Kings in the former’s first game at the Delta Center. It was a star-studded affair as Utah Jazz stars Lauri Markannen and Taylor Hendricks, UFC Bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington, and Khalil Rountree Jr. also showed up in the arena.

Before heading to Delta Center to witness the hockey excitement, Wade and his friends took some time out for golf. Sharing a snap on his IG Stories, Wade wrote, “Golf Scramble Crew.” This was followed by more snippets showing Wade taking a few swings. It was during one of his golfing sessions that Wade took his first step into the ownership game.

In one of his 2019 golfing sessions with Ryan Smith, Wade became intrigued by their conversation and began strategizing. Finally, in 2021, he joined the ownership group. Wade became a part owner of the Utah Jazz. Later in 2023, he bought an ownership stake in the WNBA team Chicago Sky and was part of the group when the NHL Board of Governors granted an expansion franchise to Smith earlier this year.

Dwyane Wade hinted at ‘big things’ for Utah Hockey Club

When Smith announced that his group would be bringing a hockey team to Utah, Wade praised his friend and business partner for the expansion. “Big Congrts to my partners at SEG! Big things are happening in Utah! Yes Utah! Let’s go,” Wade wrote on his IG Stories. The team played with the same excitement in their first game.

The Utah Hockey Club was impressive in its first preseason game in Iowa, securing a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Blues in Des Moines. The franchise, previously called the Arizona Coyotes, was renamed UHC after Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) acquired it in Utah, a move that garnered widespread praise. They are part of the Central Division in the Western Conference.
