Dwyane Wade built his legacy on the hardwood – three NBA titles, a Finals MVP, and countless clutch shots. Gabrielle Union forged hers on‑screen, as one of Hollywood’s fiercest voices for representation. Yet on May 5, 2025, at Anna Wintour’s Met Gala, the demand to “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” they weren’t strutting into an awards show. They were laying bare their truth

Each year, the couple has set the bar higher for themselves and somehow managed to surpass it. Last year, the Miami Heat legend turned up the temperature, looking dapper in his Versace suit. His wife, the Bring It On actress, turned heads in her gorgeous Michael Kors dress with a flowing ombré scale pattern. For this night, the couple clearly put much thought into the theme, as they were both clad in Prada. What do the two think about the theme?

On Extra TV, Union responded to the theme question. “Expression! It is we as black people living our full selves and all of the colors and all of our characteristics and ourselves, not the gaze of the others who want to cast a…There’s always a negative tilt, so this is us living for ourselves without explanation and impeccably designed and tailored for us by us,” Union said.

Wade agreed as he said, “We also parent in dandyism. We parent in a sense of freedom and expressive. That’s how we parent our kids to live life to approach life, and so I think if we had a definition of who we are as parents.

The 3x NBA champ also spoke about the special focus on men’s fashion this year. “This is the second time in Met Gala history, I think 2003 was the last time that men was celebrated in this way, and so first of al,l for us to be able to show up here together, look amazing, it’s never about us. We always making sure that we don’t get in the way. Tonight we are the way, and so it’s incredible,” Dwyane Wade explained. DWade, who learned the true meaning of fashion and self-care from the men in his family, seems to be all about it.

Dwyane Wade went all-in on the theme. He wore a formal white suit, but, well, the focus of the theme demanded more details, and Wade’s stylists listened. He had an elaborate vest with bright accents underneath his blazer. He paired it with black pants and matching shoes. For the nails, he went with green, black, and silver.

Paying tribute to the theme, his wife, Union, wore a matte black strapless gown. A long white train flowing from it elevated the look. And she added two white floral pieces above her ears and paired the fit with a stunning necklace with red spinel.

The event this year, as in previous years, raised an astonishing $31 million, surpassing last year’s $26 million, as per CBS reports. Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and many more were in attendance. When it comes to the Met Gala, important members of the NBA world have often showcased their personas and embraced the purpose of the night the best. La La Anthony’s mesmerizing gowns paid tribute to Virgil Abloh

Anthony returned to her duties for the night, hosting Vogue’s annual livestream of the Met Gala red carpet. Apart from her duties, Anthony ensured that she brought her best, dressed in a gown from one of the most iconic designers in the fashion world.

She wore a classic archival Off-White design from the late Virgil Abloh. It featured part of a white tulle gown, with a beautiful twist in the form of a black jumpsuit integrated into the outfit. She paired her look with silver jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz. And she did not forget the meaning and purpose behind the biggest night of the year. Abloh’s Fall 2020 collection was his last major runway showcase before his passing in November 2021, making archival pieces from that season deeply resonant for homage.

While speaking to Vogue, the fashion icon explained that she had made up her mind not to hold herself back for this night when she learned of the theme. It was the same for almost everyone. “I’m humbled to wear this dress and honor my talented, beautiful friend. We felt you tonight, Virgil, and love you forever,” she wrote on Instagram.

Last year, Anthony wore a black, strapless mermaid gown with a corset-style bodice, giving a nod to ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’ One thing about Anthony is that she doesn’t know how to disappoint when it comes to the Met Gala. This year was a spectacle, too. And it wouldn’t be wrong to say the same for Union and Wade.
