Dwyane Wade‘s wife Gabrielle Union isn’t the only Hollywood actress to enter the business world. But the way she sparked a revolution with her unique ventures is what makes the change. She launched her first wine, Vanilla Puddin’ Chardonnay in 2014. Following this, she has continued to explore every opportunity presented to her. The actress has gone through many trials and tribulations but turned each of those into opportunities to thrive. She had her illustrious acting career to back it up, but business doesn’t work like that.

The mother of four recently opened up about the real struggles of running a business not from the standpoint of an accomplished actress but a savvy businesswoman. During the conversation with Glossy Beauty Pop, the Bring It On actress spoke about her haircare brand Flawless, which she started in association with her hair stylist Larry Sims.

She shared that while her image helped her in the first phase of her business, there were many other layers and phases that she had to go through to secure her business. Obviously, the financial aspect is one of the most important parts of it.

“I hate the term celebrity brand for our company. Yes, my name helped us get through the door and find investors but that’s kind of where it ends. You don’t have an endless well of money. So when you come out the gate successful like we did selling out, if you don’t have an endless supply of money you cannot refill orders over and over and over again,Union said.

She added that her brand’s profit margin is less than the other brands while the product quality is constantly upgraded, which makes a huge difference. “I’m not trying to create a solution and then price people out of this solution to line my pockets… So, for us, Flawless is about meeting the community where we’re at, with great products and great prices. And if I can use my name to help you know about it, awesome. But I will not sacrifice efficacy, affordability, and accessibility because of my brand,” she further stated. Despite Union’s vast knowledge of business, her husband and Miami Heat legend was hesitant about collaboration with Union.

Dwyane Wade didn’t want to start a business with Gabrielle Union

From snack food company Bitsy’s to many more, she has quite a knack for business. Even in partnership with her husband, Union works on wine, food, hair care, and lifestyle brands. One of the most popular is their baby-care brand, Proudly. Furthermore, the actress has always drawn inspiration from her life which helps her connect with people and clients more than the rest.

If she’s truly dedicated to her work, why was Wade hesitant to collaborate with her? It turns out that was the reason behind it. Union is too passionate about her business and likes prompt actions, while Wade has a different and more laid-back way of handling his tasks.

“I did not wanna work with my wife in this capacity. She be on me! ‘Did you look at this email? Did you return this email?’ We got different processes,” Wade said in an interview with Fast Company. While he only meant it as a joke, it once again showed how much effort Union puts into her work. Based on Union’s experience, her words are sure to make an impact.
