The Golden Globes Weekend is in full swing, marked by a series of glamorous parties. Los Angeles is currently hosting a star-studded extravaganza for the inaugural Hollywood party weekend. W Magazine’s Best Performance Issue party was the celebration that officially started the celebratory weekend and a lot of celebrities were seen joining in on the fun. Dwyane Wade‘s wife Gabrielle Union was among the star-studded attendees, though she wasn’t nominated for any award this year. As she is a well-known personality in the world of cinema, her presence at the award show is almost certain.

However last year, in one of her movies that won the awards, the role played couldn’t seem further from her own life. Being a parent of a trans child she struggled to relate to the role as she ‘treated homophobes as trash.’ Well, this year was all about love and support for the industry. She was seen enjoying her time with fellow actors and celebrities. The actress shared numerous moments from the party with her 21.6 million Instagram followers.

The 3x NBA champion’s wife is celebrating her fellow co-stars this year at the Globes. However, her film, ‘The Inspection‘ was nominated for the Globe and several other awards last year.

Gabrielle Union plays the role of a homophobic mother

This was a drama based on the director’s own experiences as a gay man in Marine Corps basic training following a decade of living on the streets. In his first cinematic starring role, Tony– and Emmy–nominated actor Jeremy Pope stars as a young man dealing with the intimidation of a sadistic sergeant (Bokeem Woodbine), his desire for a sympathetic superior (Raúl Castillo), and his complicated feelings toward the mother who rejected him (Gabrielle Union).

Dwyane Wade’s and Gabrielle’s stepdaughter Zaya came out as transgender in 2020, and being a parent of a trans child, found it very challenging to play this role. In an interview, Gabrielle mentioned how she felt when she was approached for the role. She said, “At first, I was offended that anyone would ever think that I could play a character like this. I’m like, ‘What have I ever given off that anyone would think I could play a homophobic character?'”

She further added, “I always look at homophobes as trash… I’m not doing free labor for you to figure out how to love your kid.’ But through the process of [making The Inspection]… I’m never going to reject my child. None of my children are disposable.” Though Gabrielle didn’t have many scenes in “The Inspection,” her performance garnered some of the best reviews of her career.

Earlier this year the actress showed a wonderful performance with her latest Netflix movie, ‘The Perfect Find.’ The movie was released on June 23 on Netflix. In it, the 51-year-old was paired with Keith Powers. The concept of the movie delivered a powerful message of breaking stereotypes associated with age and relationships. It also won the ‘Audience Award for Narrative Feature’ at the Tribeca Film Festival.
