We saw one of the biggest coaching hunts of the year with the Lakers. Despite this huge opportunity, Boston Celtics Assistant Coach Sam Cassell couldn’t land his dream job. With four NBA titles including one as a coach under his belt, Cassell is currently one of the top assistant coaches in the league. And he hopes to land a head coach job. Unfortunately, despite having one of the best resumes that speaks volumes about his skills, he had to face disappointment. But, that hasn’t crushed Cassell’s hope or passion for his work. He isn’t giving up.

In a recent conversation with Draymond Green on his podcast, Cassell assured listeners that he would continue to strive for an opportunity to acquire a head coaching position in the league. The 54-year-old also spoke about his love and dedication for the game, which will never allow him to stop pursuing his goal.

“I’m not giving up. Yeah, I’m not giving up because I love, I love, I love this sh*t. I love the game of basketball you can ask anybody in Boston when I come to work I never have a bad day even though I might have a bad moment before I come into the office,” Cassell said, via The Draymond Green Show.

Cassell was also reportedly a top choice for the Lakers’ head coach position. Amidst the Lakers’ search for an HC, the NBA coach expressed his aspirations in a podcast. During an appearance for the Point Game podcast, Cassell promised, “I just know if I get an opportunity, I’m gonna be a good head coach. I understand what it takes to get a player going…”

Apart from Cassell’s achievements, what shines the best is the effort that he puts into his work. It is incredible how he managed to keep the players’ morale high, while everything is at stake during games. There are rumors that the Celtics might offer him the job of a lead assistant coach. The C’s aren’t very interested in losing such a valuable coach as Cassell.

The NBA legend has won three NBA titles as a player. He just won his fourth with the Celtics led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. He is a seasoned pro who has coached the 76ers, Clippers, and now obviously, the Celtics.

Sam Cassell interviewed for the Lakers’ position

After the Los Angeles Lakers fired Darvin Ham, the retired NBA player was reportedly one of the best candidates for the position. But the pool had other talented and promising coaches such as Kenny Atkinson, James Borrego, and rookie coach JJ Redick

As per Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson, Rajon Rondo and Cassell were among Redick’s top choices for assistant coaches. “I have heard that he and Rajon Rondo are assistant coaching candidates that JJ Redick is considering in Los Angeles,” his X post read. Just a few inches away from his dream job, Cassell lost the opportunity to Redick. Well, it appears that LeBron James‘ Lakers are still very interested in bringing the NBA legend onto their coaching staff. Just the fear that was hovering over the Celtics.

However, Cassell seems more likely to stay with the Boston Celtics while he is determined to secure an HC job someday soon in the future.
