Known for his outspoken personality and habit of ripping players apart, the father of 4 has always been a staple of the NBA. Recently recounting a heart-wrenching father-son tale, the former Warriors guard never had it easy. But with the recent news of his son, the Tampa-born star could be headed towards a pleasant turn.

Before Gilbert Arenas became a star at Ulysses S. Grant High School in Los Angeles, ‘Agent Zero’ lived across the country in Tampa, Florida. The 3x All-Star remained in the Sunshine State until he was 6 before his father made a courageous journey across the West.
In an interview with ANDSCAPE, Arenas listed out the reasons for this cross-country relocation as he shared quite a heart-wrenching tale.

Gilbert Arenas Sr. left Tampa for Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Driving across the country in a RX-7 that had already been driven for over 100,00 miles. The single father risked homelessness as he came to LA with his son and thirty dollars.
Only 6 at the time, Gilbert Jr. remembers being denied entries in Y.M.C.A and a shelter in Pasadena as the duo wandered around homeless.
Arenas recounted his father sobbing as they spent the night in a parking lot. Speaking of the moment, Arenas remembered asking his dad what was wrong, to which his question was dismissed by a resolute, “Nothing’s wrong son.”
Even if only a child, Arenas understood the situation as he reassured his father, stating. “It’s going to be alright, Daddy, everything is going to be OK.”

The future looks bright for the Arenas household
Everything did turn out to be alright in the end as Gilbert Arenas Jr. made it all the way to the NBA. While he did make three all-star appearances, ‘Hibachi’ didn’t necessarily set the NBA on fire.
Although unable to win a ring, the fact that he was able to make it to the league is a triumph in itself. With him now living in a gated community in Los Angeles, the story had its full circle moment.

This isn’t likely the end, as the pleasant turn of events continues even today. Arenas’ son, Alijah Arenas, is ranked 5th in his class as he looks to emulate greater heights. The 16-year-old is the highest-ranked shooting guard of his class and could deliver the chip to the Arenas household.
