The LA Clippers seem to be getting back into the championship contenders list. Having won seven of their last 10 games, the Clippers roster is also falling in line with a smooth rotation. After their recent win against the defending champions, Denver Nuggets‘ star Jamal Murray had a few words for James Harden.

Murray said that James Harden should take more shots in games as he has the ability and knowledge to be lethal. However, ex-Clippers star Lou Williams thinks Murray is trying to sabotage him with such comments.

Lou Williams’s opinion on the Jamal Murray comment

Chances are that Murray was coming from a good place when advising Harden. He suggested Harden take more shots in games because of his accuracy and importance in the squad. However, Williams sees it as something else. On the recent episode of Run It Back, he said: “If the Clippers beat me, and James Harden takes 10 shots, and [Jamal Murray] goes out after the game and says ‘I would like for him to shoot more’… Sounds like sabotage to me.”

The Beard has recently joined the Clippers and is already playing a key role in the progress of his team. He is averaging 16 points per game with 6.7 assists. In addition to that, there is no denying the impact that Harden can make in any structure. Although the Clippers are a very stacked team, his inclusion has only added depth to the roster. Murray said, “I would like him to shoot more, honestly. He can shoot it”. This could be taken as a genuine suggestion considering he only took 10 shots in that game. However, the NBA veteran duo thought otherwise about the comment.

As per Williams, there is more to what is being said and all this could just be a strategy that is being put to the test by Murray.

Was Jamal Murray trying to insult James Harden?

After the game, Murray complimented the Clippers shooting guard for his abilities. He said, “He does a good job playing at his own pace and getting other guys involved”. The Clippers won the game 111-102 against a very strong team. This becomes even more impressive when you consider the fact that Nikola Jokic and Murray were in action.

However, the NBA veterans see Murray’s comment as insulting. They said that if an opposition player is making such claims after you’ve had a dominant win against them, there has to be an ulterior motive behind it.
