Recently, an NBA legend talked about his history with marijuana. After starting young, Matt Barnes found the recreational drug to be of immense use and benefit to him. While unveiling some hard childhood truths, the former Los Angeles Laker also discussed its consumption in the modern-day NBA.

Over the years, athletes such as Kevin Durant have spoken about the use of cannabis around the league. Now that it is legalized in several parts of the country, the conversation is based on the benefits one can extract from it.

Matt Barnes was recently in conversation with Andre Iguodala on his podcast Point Forward. On Iguodala’s podcast, the 43-year-old was asked about his view on marijuana. Barnes revealed that his history with the substance goes back 29 years.

The 14-season veteran revealed that he consumed marijuana for the first time at the early age of 14. Then, the 2017 NBA champion delved into the consumption of recreational drugs in the league. He said, “I know it’s no secret anymore. It’s probably like 70% of the dudes…”

Barnes was referring to the number of athletes who consume marijuana in the league in this era of basketball. One of the biggest modern stars has also remained a vocal proponent of the substance.

Kevin Durant’s revelation on marijuana consumption

Earlier this year, the Slim Reaper talked about the consumption of marijuana in the NBA.

Kevin Durant revealed that it is extremely common for athletes and that it is not something one tries to hide anymore. The 2014 NBA MVP had even said it is “like wine at this point” and even revealed an encounter with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Recalling an encounter with Mr. Silver, KD said, “Well, he smelled it when I walked in. So, I didn’t really have to say much”.

Clearly, current and former stars are all in on the legalization of marijuana. Only time will tell if this translates into an interest in the business side of the industry as well.
