Jayson Tatum‘s $315 million deal was par for the course. After much speculation, Big Deuce has agreed to sign the 5-year deal with the Celtics. With this, he will surpass his teammate Jaylen Brown‘s $304 million contract, signing the most lucrative deal of the year.

We are not surprised, and neither is former NBA player Eddie Johnson. However, the retired player has a different opinion on this. He took to his social media to mock the Celtics star’s deal just after the announcement of the team’s ownership sale.

Quoting a tweet by Bleacher Report about Jayson Tatum’s new contract, Eddie A. Johnson wrote, “Is that all? That’s enough to make Kareem fall off his rocking chair and vomit.”

Before the news of Tatum’s re-signing with the Celtics reached the fans, the market scene was already buzzing with the hottest news of the franchise going up for sale. Quite surprisingly, Boston Basketball Partners LLC has confirmed to sell its shares by the year 2028. “The controlling family of the ownership group, after considerable thought and internal discussion, has decided to sell the team for estate and family planning considerations,” the sources said. Until then, the majority owner of the franchise, Wyc Grousbeck, and his family will continue to hold the position of the team’s NBA governor.

As far as Johnson is concerned, this was not the first time he took a jibe at the Celtics. He did it during the NBA finals last season as well.

Not the first time Eddie Johnson mocked the Celtics

The NBA Finals are always tense, and this year, the tension was heightened by the fierce competition between the Dallas Mavericks and Celtics. After the Celtics’ defeat in Game 3, a brawl broke out.

A fan wearing a Paul Pierce shirt was seen pounding on another fan in a green shirt. As the video clip continued circulating, Johnson sarcastically mocked the situation. “This guy connected better than any Celtic last night for sure! Sign him up!” Johnson wrote on X. However, fans’ sentiments have changed with the Boston Celtics winning the Finals. Most of the Celtics’ last season’s squad has been retained, much to the delight of the fans.

The Celtics have retained most of their players including Jayson Tatum

Not just Jayson Tatum, but it was also announced that another Celtics star Derrick White agreed to sign a 4-year deal with the franchise that would pay him $125.9 million.

Along with Tatum and White, the other starters Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jrue Holiday will remain with the Celtics until the 2025-26 season. While Tatum will have to pay a lot in taxes, he will reportedly get around $25.2 million annually, which is still quite a decent amount after all the deductions.
