The Warriors beat the Orlando Magic 121-115, bringing Stephen Curry and Co. to a 16-17 record on the season, 1 dub short of .500 basketball and the 10th seed. While a resurgence in the former dynasty is yet to be witnessed, a former Warriors player has begun pointing fingers. Amidst their struggles, 4x NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins suggested a change for the franchise.

Boogie played briefly in San Francisco during the 2018 season, so he is somewhat familiar with the Golden State Warriors‘ dynamics. However, given their downward trajectory so far this season, Cousins believes that the team should consider making a change. During the latest episode of ‘Bully Ball,’ DeMarcus Cousins emphasized that it starts with Steve Kerr.

Talking about his own experience, Boogie said, “I was a part of this organization. I know the mood, I know how they carry themselves – it’s super laidback. It’s very nonchalant and obviously, they get their work done, they’re professionals and all of these things, but these were the standards that was set in place for this team.”

Cousins found the culture in place to be lackadaisical. According to the Sacramento Kings legend, it is a top-down issue. “And it starts with the leadership, which is Steve Kerr. We’re looking for some urgency now with this team to get them back in their rhythm and like I said, maybe it’s just time for a new leadership.”

Currently, the absence of Draymond Green due to suspension has left the undersized Warriors shorthanded on the defensive end. The Chef dropped 36 points to lead the team to win against the Magic. The players are fueled by a collective desire to change the narrative but the Warriors’ current struggle is reminiscent of Boogie’s time with the franchise.

Cousins was well anticipated to receive about a $180 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. However, things derailed for Boogie when he sustained an Achilles injury. While many weren’t interested in taking the risk, the Warriors seized the opportunity in 2018.

After discussions with Curry, Kevin Durant, and Green, the franchise signed Cousins during his rehabilitation. Despite much hype in the beginning, the season with DeMarcus Cousins didn’t end well. Returning from surgery, Boogie showcased both remarkable and average performances. However, he wasn’t able to bring the consistency that the Warriors needed in their backcourt.
