With the NBA off-season in full swing, there have been plenty of talking points so far. The Draft has kept most teams on their toes while free agency saw many teams rebuild entirely. On top of all this, the trades and extensions have been quite absurd, with teams shelling out millions of dollars to sign and re-sign players.

Talents such as Jaylen Brown and Anthony Davis made all the noise as both men signed never-seen-before contracts in the NBA. The former signed the biggest contract in NBA history surpassing Nikola Jokic‘s $270 million deal, while the Lakers Center signed the biggest annual contract with a guaranteed $62 million per season. Davis will be looking to make the most of this situation as a Lakers icon urged the former all-star MVP to replicate ‘Joker’.

7x NBA champion urges Anthony Davis to replicate Nikola Jokic’s exploits
During a recent episode of the ‘Big Shot Bob’ podcast, 7x NBA champion Robert Horry gave his views on Davis’s new contract. Signing a deal worth a total of $270 million in 5 years, the center has officially become the Lakers’ highest-paid player.
Speaking about this contract, Horry believed that AD deserved the contract but needed to stay healthy. Putting it into his own words, he said, “When you think about it, if you take away the injuries, he is a generational talent.”

Continuing to wax lyrical about AD, Horry believed that his talents were on par with NBA champion Nikola Jokic. Bullish that the center could be a frontrunner for the MVP trophy, the former Laker stated. “He can really win the MVP if he says ‘You know what? Imma take a page out of Jokic’s book.‘”

Comparing AD’s talent to the former MVP, Rob believed the center could “do everything Jokic does and more.” Revealing that Davis needed to be more aggressive, Horry made another startling statement as retorted. “He just needs to put it into his mindset that I am going to be aggressive. And be like F-everybody, from LeBron to anyone who is on his team.”

AD’s injury troubles after becoming a Laker
When Anthony Davis first signed with the LA Lakers in 2019, many expected him and LeBron to dominate the NBA for the next few years. While the two did win a ring in their second season together, Davis’ injury problems have limited their success. Having never played more than 62 games since his arrival, the center has struggled for meaningful minutes.

While Robert Horry’s comments about AD being a “generational talent” are true, the big man has never reached the heights of his Pelican days. Having signed a big contract this off-season it still remains to be seen whether this decision is going to pay off in the long run.
