Dwyane Wade is the best player in Miami Heat history. Even Pat Riley himself admitted this recently. However, all the history and fanfare were not enough to keep the 3x NBA champion in South Beach. Zaya Wade, his daughter, is part of the LGBTQ+ community. The Flash wanted to protect his family and make them feel comfortable, so he decided to move his family from Florida to California earlier this year.

During the latest episode of the Point Forward podcast with Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner, D-Wade was asked what it is like to take a stand about difficult topics.

Dwyane Wade wants the best for his daughter

The 2006 Finals MVP revealed that he does not speak and give his opinions on everything. Instead, Dwyane Wade speaks about things that are part of his life, or that he has experienced. But he always stays away from giving his thoughts on things he doesn’t know enough about.

When it comes to his family and children, he knows them better than anyone else. Thus, to make life better for them, Wade speaks out about things that he feels are making them uncomfortable. For his daughter Zaya, Wade understood that Florida was not the right place for her.

He wanted to give her the best he could and let her be in a community where she felt like she belonged.

Wade said, “We tried to force it. We went up to the school. We tried to talk about, hey do you guys have a community? Do you guys have a queer community? What are ya’ll doing with the queer community? How are they activated? And there wasn’t really a lot of it.“

After being disappointed by the community, Wade and his family understood that they had to find a better space that would help his daughter Zaya succeed.

Wade is fine with the move to California

In Florida, Dwyane Wade never had to pay anything as taxes because of the tax laws of the state. Even then, he decided to move to California and pay taxes because California had the community that his daughter needed.

At the end of the day, Wade is a father and the protector of his family. He will do what has to be done for his family to have a good life.

Wade ended the podcast by saying that when you are doing something for others rather than just yourself, it can accomplish great things. He is proud and happy for his daughter and himself for everything he has done. Even though he had to relinquish a lot of things that have been part of his life, he is happy to see the effect his move has had on Zaya Wade’s life.
