Just like Shaquille O’Neal and basketball go hand in hand, Shaq and humor are an inseparable duo. Whether it’s cracking jokes on Inside the NBA or delivering punchlines on The Big Podcast, Shaq’s comedic timing is always on point. Now, imagine Shaq on a comedy show, roasting and getting roasted. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, that could be a reality on March 30, if he takes up an invitation from a rather unusual host: a parody version of Dr. Phil.

The invitation comes from comedian Adam Ray, do improv comedy under the persona of famous TV therapist, Dr. Phil McGraw. “Hey guys, Dr. Phil here,” Ray’s parody character began. “If you are a seven-foot-one black man from Newark, New Jersey, born March 6, 1972, who had over 28,000 career points, 13,000 rebounds, was an eight-time all-NBA first team, 15-time all-star, four-time NBA champ, McDonald’s All-American, gold medalist, size 22 shoe, and size 48-inch p—-, this message is for you.”

But that wasn’t all. Ray’s Dr. Phil continued, “Hey Shaq, Dr. Phil here, and I just wanted to say I’m a big fan, and I love you. I got your poster above my bed, and I look at it every night before I come inside my wife or smoke a J and have some Frosted Flakes.”

And then came the official invite. “I just wanted to tell you we have a Dr. Phil Live show at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 30th, and I want you to come to the show and be our special guest,” Ray’s Dr. Phil announced. “We would like to cordially invite you to join Miss Pat, Vanessa Mitchell, Zach Brown, and other surprise guests at the Dr. Phil Live at Cobb Energy Center March 30th.”

Even though it’s a parody, the show has racked up over 10 million views online and even featured the real Dr. Phil once. The Cobb Energy Center will host the event, kicking off at 7:30 PM. Tickets? They start at $44.50 and go up to $74.50, plus fees.

And if you’re worried about parking, the venue has 1,000 on-site spaces at $17 per vehicle. With tickets almost sold out, the only question left is: Will Shaq accept the invite? But pretty sure you didn’t know Shaq and Dr. Phil have a unique connection.

Shaquille O’Neal and Dr. Phil: The connection

Remember the Scary Movie franchise? Those films were all about spoofing iconic horror flicks with a comedic twist. And in its fourth part, Shaquille O’Neal and Dr. Phil teamed up for a scene that turned into pure comedy gold.

The scene kicks off with Shaq, and Dr. Phil waking up, their legs chained together. The catch? They have just 120 seconds to escape—or face their doom. The key to survival? Shaq has to sink a free throw. But, as every basketball fan knows, free throws are Shaq’s biggest weakness. After some hilarious back-and-forth, plus a few playful hits on Dr. Phil, Shaq finally sinks the shot, earning them a saw to escape.

But things only got funnier from there. As they struggle to cut through the chains, it quickly becomes clear that it’s hopeless. That’s when Dr. Phil suggests they should see through their legs instead. “You go first,” Shaq says. Dr. Phil, unimpressed, fires back with, “B——-.” Shaq, never one to back down, quips, “Yeah, you’re probably not man enough. I guess your momma was right.” Without missing a beat, Dr. Phil starts cutting—only to realize he’s working on the wrong leg!

Off-screen, their chemistry is just as strong. In 2019, when Dr. Phil launched his Phil in the Blanks podcast, Shaquille O’Neal was his very first guest. So, if Shaq accepts the latest invite—this time from Adam Ray’s parody Dr. Phil—it’ll be a blast to see their playful dynamic once again.
