Over a year ago, a single episode of 7 PM in Brooklyn had social media in a chokehold. Carmelo Anthony and his ex, La La Anthony, were in the same space for the first time since their 2021 divorce, and it wasn’t a casual setting courtside at their son’s game. Two proud parents were about to find out their son would commit to Syracuse University. Kiyan did his senior season, played in the Jordan Classic, won MVP, arrived in Syracuse, picked #7 for his jersey, and will soon start his first college season. His dad’s a Hall-of-Fame and about to make his sportscasting debut, and his mom is juggling three acting projects. But that one emotional family moment blew 7 PM’s popularity in the stratosphere.

7 PM in Brooklyn is nominated at the 2025 Signal Awards, which honor podcasts with uplifting content. It’s not surprising what got 7 PM nominations. The pod is a finalist in the “Best Individual Episode” and “Athletes Shaping Culture” categories.
The latter is self-explanatory – Carmelo Anthony is the athlete shaping culture. The first category is the most special episode in which Kiyan announced his commitment to Syracuse in 2024 with his parents beside him.

They rightfully dubbed it, “Episode so special we got NOMINATED for an award 🏆.” They’ve been celebrating Melo’s Hall of Fame enshrinement in September, and Kiyan is participating in the epic moment.
7 PM is also teasing the new season hosted by NBC’s newest NBA analyst, Carmelo Anthony and will probably be celebrating Kiyan Anthony’s first college season at Syracuse somehow. They could bring Kiyan back for another episode, too. But for now, the pod has a big request for fans.

7 PM is gearing up for its first award
Signal Awards have a particular criterion for their nominees and winners. The awards honor podcasts that showcase diverse storytelling and shape culture. 7 PM in Brooklyn created a defining moment in November 2024.
Carmelo Anthony and La La Anthony have been at Kiyan’s games together many times since their divorce and have only presented an amicable relationship in public. They even went to Kiyan’s college visits together and posted for a family picture in Orange jerseys with Melo’s 2003 championship trophy. That episode on 7 PM in Brooklyn was the first time it was not an unofficial setting. They both praised each other for being a supportive co-parent.
They were also not pressuring Kiyan on his college choice. So it was a surprise for Melo when Kiyan passed on Florida State and USC to wear the orange Syracuse cap in front of him on that show.
A year later, that episode and Melo’s entire persona as an NBA and Team USA star in the media were nominated for the Signal Awards. The podcast last had two nominations at The Webby Awards – Featured Guest for the episode with Method Man and People’s Choice – but didn’t win. Winning this would be very special.
