Dwyane Wade can outplay you on the basketball court and then easily outsmart you in Spades too. The 3x NBA champion is an avid Spades enthusiast. More than a hobby, it’s his way to bond with people. That’s why it’s understandable when Wade began to host the spades card tournament during the NBA All-Star Weekend. While playing the game, he is as passionate as he used to be on the court and gets competitive when he’s losing. However, things do get a bit different when it comes to playing with his wife.

This game is a bit tricky and has many complicated moves. One of those is getting your high card cut by your opponent, and that is not a fun experience. Like most couples, D-Wade also plays with his wife, Gabrielle Union, and goes through the same ordeals. During a conversation with WNBA star Candace Parker during his podcast ‘The Why’, Wade revealed that he has to control his emotions while playing with his wife. “It is hard to play Spades in relationships. I play with mine hence why we haven’t won in the tournament because you get to that point where you be like, you cutting my king, what do I do right now? Do I want to go home later and just have a good or do I…” 

Knowing which fights to pick is an essential skill that the Flash seems to have mastered. Though it’s affecting his Spades record, it’s a good thing the Miami Heat  legend won the Spades Tournament this year at the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Dwyane Wade’s love for family time inspired this business

We are well aware of Wade’s love for the game of Spades. He revealed that this game was more of a bonding thing for him and his family. Later, he decided to redefine it and in the process brought in other NBA stars and celebrities into it too.

The idea of this tournament came to Dwyane Wade while he was casually playing Spades after a business meeting in Turks and Caicos. And soon in association with apparel brand Stance, D-Wade began this tournament in 2012-2013, which has since seen a pool of basketball stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Jayson Tatum, Lauri Markkanen, Jaden Ivey, Donovan Mitchell, Julius Randle, Jaren Jackson Jr.,  Buddy Hield, Reggie Miller Pascal Siakam, and more join him. Dwyane Wade was also seen playing with his wife in the tournament.
