Ryan Hoge was talking about the period 2022 and 2023, with more than 350,000 combined submissions. Michael Jordan’s NBA Finals Game Worn Air Jordan VIII sneakers are available to the bidders. The estimate from the Sotheby’s currently is between $200,000 to $400,000. MJ wore them during Games 4 and 5 of the 1993 NBA Finals against his former best friend, Charles Barkley’s Phoenix Suns. The 6x NBA Champion donned the pair in one half of Game 4 and Game 5, which helped the Bulls secure the three-peat.

In game 4, MJ scored an astonishing 55 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, which led them to win 111-105. Although in game 5, the Chicago side lost to the Suns, 108-98, Michael Jordan scored 41 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks. As we know, game 6 was the close-out game, and what would have appeared to be his final game.

But the North Carolina Alum came back for more and won three more championships, and then three more, making it another three-peat, and that’s why ‘The Dynasty Collection’ sold for a record-breaking $8.03 million. It was during another Sotheby’s auction, where a set of Nike sneakers worn by MJ himself during ‘championship-clinching’ games in the respective years of 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998 were up for the grabs.

Michael Jordan keeps breaking records off the field

According to Alex Schiffer, FOS noted that the market for Jordan-related memorabilia hasskyrocketed” since ESPN aired The Last Dance documentary series in 2020. In June, he broke his record as the 2003 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Michael Jordan Signed Logoman reached a 7-figure mark. It went for $2,928,000, which is an all-time record for any MJ card.

Let’s go a year back when the Bulls legend’s memorabilia kept breaking records. In April 2023, a pair of game-worn shoes from Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $2.24 million. Thus, breaking the sneaker auction record for the third time since 2020. The following month, a game-worn autographed Jordan jersey from the 1992 Olympics’ Dream Team sold for $3 million. Yet, the highest item was his jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals brought in $10.1 million, which was sold in January 2023.

Michael Jordan collectibles easily beat the LeBron James Finals jersey record of $3.6 million. But faced a little completion from the GOAT of another sport, as Lionel Messi’s set of World Cup Jersey fetched a price of $7.8 million. So, there is no doubt that MJ still has the surrounding lore, which draws the fans towards such auctions. How do you feel about the market flourishing with an array of MJ memorabilia?
