In recent NBA news, late NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain’s 1972 NBA finals jersey was auctioned for a whopping $4.9 million. It is the third most expensive jersey to have been auctioned, a gold and purple Lakers jersey with Wilt’s iconic jersey number ‘13’. The iconic jersey has priceless value because of its rich history. During Wilt Chamberlain’s tenure as a Laker, he won his 2nd and final NBA championship in the 1972 NBA finals.

This iconic jersey is from the game where the 7-foot NBA legend won the Los Angeles Lakers its first-ever NBA championship. What makes this jersey even more iconic is that the late Wilt Chamberlain was nursing a broken hand from the previous NBA Finals game.

He still managed to win the 1972 NBA Finals. His performance was so good that it was also the NBA Finals where he won his first NBA Finals MVP award. The NBA legend passed away in 1999 but his iconic performances in the NBA, especially the 1972 NBA finals, will forever be one of NBA’s most memorable moments.

This iconic Wilt Chamberlain Lakers jersey is the third most expensive NBA jersey to have ever been auctioned. Whose were the top two most expensive memorabilia?

Michael Jordan’s and the late Kobe Bryant’s iconic memorabilia

From signed ‘final career game’ tickets to the Olympic Gold medalist ring, the Black Mamba has a long list of iconic memorabilia that have been auctioned for millions of dollars. His most expensive jersey was sold for a mind-boggling $5.8 million. The late Kobe Bryant wore this jersey for only 25 games in the 2007-2008 NBA season. However, what made the jersey special was that he wore it in his one and only MVP season.

However, the most expensive NBA memorabilia to ever be auctioned was Michael Jordan’s. It was Jordan’s game-used jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA finals. Why is it iconic? Because in 1998, Jordan created history by winning his second three-peat for the Chicago Bulls.
