Andy Enfield has bid farewell to the USC Trojans after 11 seasons with the team. The coach has decided to make a move for future possibilities, which for him is the head coaching job at Southern Methodist University as of now. Meanwhile, knocking on the door, closed by Enfield on Trojans, is a 30-year-old ex-Los Angeles Lakers star.

The 2010 NBA champion, Metta Peace World, has been in search of coaching job opportunities for a long time now. “@USC_Athletics head coach picked yet? Hmmmmm #coachmettaready,” he posted on X.

The post comes two days after Enfield stepped down from the position of head coach of the Trojans. “On behalf of USC Athletics, I want to thank Andy Enfield for his 11 seasons of leadership and service to the university… He elevated and established USC men’s basketball as a premier program with a strong national presence…” USC Athletic Director Jennifer Cohen said in a statement.

While there has been no official reason for Enfield leaving the Trojans, there have been various speculations about it. One of the primary ones has been the Trojans having a rough season this year. Not only did the team fail to make it to the NCAA tourney, the team came 9th in the Pac-12 tournament. Another reason could be Andy Enfield getting a better offer at SMU.

Whatever the grounds, it has unquestionably created an opening that Metta World Peace wants to seize. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time the 40-year-old has expressed interest in a coaching job through a social media post.

Earlier this month, Metta posted a video on X for the same. “I don’t have an agent, but looking to coach women’s or head coach in the NBA. Metta is ready,” read the post. Notably, Metta has coached basketball for girls for the last nine years during his Lakers tenure, as claimed in the posted video.

However, it is not as if the coaching profession has been a newfound interest for the ex-LA Lakers star. In fact, he even pulled himself out of the Big3 tournament back in 2019 for his goal. He declared his exit from the competition through a tweet. “The reason I am not playing in the @thebig3 is because I plan on coaching more locally,” he stated in another tweet on the same day.

Following this, Metta tried for the position of coach in the New York Knicks after the firing of David Fizdale in 2019. The ex-Lakers star launched a campaign for the job through a series of tweets, which he later deleted. However, the campaign went down the drain as the Knicks promoted assistant Mike Miller to interim head coach. But Metta did not give up on his goal. He tried his luck with the Boston Celtics after Brad Stevens moved to the front office to replace the retiring president of basketball operations, Danny Ainge.
