“Long story short is the car malfunctioned on him,” Gilbert Arenas recently painted a pretty terrifying picture when he sat down on All the Smoke with Matt Barnes. The former NBA star opened up about a nightmare incident involving his 18-year-old son, Alijah. According to Arenas, the teen was driving his Tesla Cybertruck when things suddenly went wrong. He told Barnes that the “steering wheel went limp,” which sent Alijah hurtling straight toward a tree. Is it too much to digest for the $350 billion worth of man who claims he is here to change the world with all his innovation? But Gil didn’t stop the attack right there.
Following that, Arenas went even deeper into what happened next—and it only got scarier. After crashing, the Cybertruck reportedly caught fire while Alijah was still inside. And because of the vehicle’s design, he couldn’t get out. “He’s on the phone with 9-1-1 – I’m trying to get that call—he’s on the phone with them for 10 minutes, so I know he was at least in the car for 10 minutes,” Arenas shared. But now, in a surprising twist, a 47-year-old rapper has jumped in to defend Elon Musk and the much-talked-about Cybertruck!
Defending the Cybertruck can come due to multiple reasons. Some for its practical utility, including impressive towing capacity and durable construction, and for others, the magic is in its electric power-train that provides smooth acceleration and a quiet, comfortable ride. Even the Arenas had it for a reason. In a clip shared by Club Shay Shay, 2 Chainz made it clear where he stands. “I don’t care who, I don’t get into none of the other stuff, right, but my Cybertruck, right, is one of the most comfortable and convenient and easy driving vehicles that I have,” he said.

Moreover, he wasn’t just defending it out of loyalty—he broke down exactly why he loves it. “I don’t have to stop at the gas station. I got all the water I need here, I don’t need to go to no store. Atlanta gas station is the most dangerous places in the world,” he said. Then he added, “the truck bulletproof. I ain’t having no beef and no smoke.”

Still, even with all the praise, Gilbert isn’t convinced.
Gilbert Arenas’ advice while using Cybertruck
Gilbert Arenas didn’t just share his son’s near-death experience—he turned it into a lesson for every parent out there. After Alijah’s terrifying crash in a Tesla Cybertruck, the former NBA star made a heartfelt plea: keep a hammer-like tool in the car. “If you are a parent and your teen has this car, you might want to put a hammer in that joint, something that can break the window. Because physically, he said he was trying to kick the window in and couldn’t.”
Not only that, “he said that he was trying to kick the window, and he couldn’t,” Arenas revealed, underlining how helpless his son felt trapped inside a burning vehicle. Once Alijah made it home from the hospital, the gratitude hit differently. Arenas emphasized just how lucky they were to even be having that conversation.

Moreover, the emotional aftermath clearly stuck with him. Arenas recalled telling his son, “I said, ‘Listen, you’re a lucky one to see this.” He wanted Alijah to understand how rare it was to come out of something that serious. “Most people don’t get to see the flowers and how everybody reacts when something happens. So, you get to witness what the world did when you was sleep, when you was in an induced coma.’” That moment clearly wasn’t just about survival—it was about perspective.

And now, with his recovery underway, all eyes are on Alijah. The five-star guard’s next destination is USC after graduation. So if things go right, we just might see him bounce back and take over the hardwood soon.
