The Chicago Bulls is the only team in NBA history to have won two ‘three-peats’ from 1991-1998. Their incredible championship runs were possible because of the three-man team of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. These 3 NBA stars were the core of the legendary 1990’s Chicago Bulls.

However, in a resurfaced “X” clip, a 7x All-Star unveils a ‘not-so-popular’ incident involving the Chicago Bulls front office that could have changed NBA history forever.

He further reveals, “MJ called and ‘axed’ that whole deal.” The hosts in shock ask the 7x All-Star, “Did you know at that time?” To which Tracy McGrady immediately replies, “Yes!”.

McGrady finally says, “Jerry Krause was trying to make a trade for me and Scottie Pippen, that night. They brought me in for a secret meeting. Yes they did.”. The host laughs as she adds, “The entire course of NBA history just…just..changed.”.

Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are arguably the best NBA player duos of all time. Their complimentary playing styles of the shooter and facilitator respectively won the Chicago Bulls a whopping 6 NBA championships. Despite the strained relationship of the former teammates currently over “The Last Dance” controversy, it is heart-warming to know that MJ had Pippen’s back when Jerry Krause (Chicago Bulls G.M. back then) wanted to trade him for a young Tracy McGrady.

Tracy McGrady, for the longest time, did not like MJ for his involvement with the Chicago Bulls front desk. It denied him the opportunity to contribute and potentially win an NBA championship with the legendary Chicago Bulls. However, after the release of “The Last Dance” documentary in 2020, the 7x All-Star was forced to change his opinion.

How “The Last Dance” changed Tracy McGrady’s opinion of MJ

The Last Dance” documentary covered the iconic championship runs of the Jordan-led Chicago Bulls of the 1990’s. The iconic team is the only team in NBA history to win in all of its NBA Finals appearances.

In an interview from 4 years ago for ESPN, Tracy McGrady opens up about his “slightly changed opinion” of Michael Jordan. He said after watching the documentary, “A lot of that stuff I already knew but what I didn’t know is that… the extent that one individual would go to have an edge over his opponent.”.

He gives an example from “The Last Dance” about when MJ went up against a young NBA player called LaBradford Smith. Tracy McGrady says, “You know Mike creates this tale in his head like the guy said something to him like “Great game” or whatever and then Mike can’t wait till the next night to see this guy, and he torches him. But from what I get, it never happened that the guy said “Great game” to MJ.”.

He further adds, “To go to that extent to have the motivation to overtake your opponent is just…it’s just pure craziness from a guy. But it worked for him.”.

Tracy McGrady found more respect for Michael Jordan’s process as a professional athlete. He also confessed that he would use other people as fuel to better his game performance but wouldn’t go to the extent of making up scenarios in his head. The 7x All-Star credits the 2020 documentary which allowed him to understand Jordan’s personality better.
