“Game of Thrones in the West”: Feared Luka Doncic’s Quest for “Iron Throne” Could Prove Fatal for Top-Seeded Rivals, As Per Celtics Legends

All three top-of-the-table teams in the Western Conference stand in a never-before-seen NBA scenario. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets—share an identical 56-25 record at present with one game remaining. So the stakes for all three teams are equally high. So Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce believe that any team facing the Luka Doncic-led Dallas Mavericks at this point is at enormous risk.
Appearing on KG Certified, Garnett and Pierce discussed the current dynamics in the Western Conference. “It’s Game of Thrones in the west. I don’t know what’s gonna come out the West. I love it, though,” Pierce stated, referencing the top three teams tied up in the West. The post was aptly captioned, “Who will sit atop the Iron Throne?” Garnett believes this whole scenario sets a great narrative to the prequel of what the playoffs will be like.
He further emphasized that no team would, however, at this point want to face the Mavericks. “Are we talking about anybody playing with some playoff grit or a playoff engine? Man, the Mavs… They’re playing with a different type of purpose and they’re making defense a priority… The two-headed monster is a real thing,” KG stated. The two-headed monster is a reference to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

“Right now, arguably the best duo in the league. Arguably… You could talk KD-Book, LeBron-AD, you could talk Tatum and Brown, but you gotta put Kyrie and Luka Doncic in there,” Pierce agreed with Garnett.

It is worth mentioning that Luka Magic is at the top of the leaderboards in terms of both the highest total points this season (2370) and the highest average points this season (33.9). In his last 5 games, he has scored 25 or more points in every single one. And he has got all the required support from his teammate Kyrie.
Irving has averaged 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game this season. The Luka-Kyrie duo is the second-highest scoring duo in the league this season with 59.5 PPG, while Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey average 60.6 PPG.

In fact, after registering a 132-96 win against the Sacramento Kings, Doncic termed himself as Robin to Kyrie’s Batman. “He’s the Batman, I’m the Robin. Nah, just amazing, man. Every guy on our team is amazing. He’s just a great person. We get along so well. The chemistry is really good right now,” he stated in the post-game interview.
This reflects the faith they have in each other. With their first-round matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers fixed, it’ll be interesting to see how the LA unit will stop this dynamic duo.
