The odds of an aspiring basketball player to make it to the NBA are minute. And the further odds of an NBA player making it to the prestigious Naismith memorial are almost negligible. It takes a ton of effort to enter into the basketball greatness. A former NBA star was recently spotted elaborating on a rather interesting criterion to make it into the basketball Hall of Fame. The latest batch of basketball personalities got inducted into the Hall of Fame on the 12th of August. It included stars such as Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade and Gregg Popovich.

The current batch might have been one of the best ones to get inducted into the Hall of Fame. Keeping this in mind a certain NBA veteran gave his take on when a basketball personality should be inducted into the elite class.

An NBA veteran opens up on his criteria to get into the Hall of Fame

Gilbert Arenas was a flawless scorer in his prime. He averaged over 20 points throughout the course of his career. He featured in the All-Star games three times in his career and also got into the All-NBA teams three times in his career. He recently in his podcast gave his take on who should be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.

In a clip reuploaded by Shaquille O’Neal, Arenas said, “Hall of Fame should be the number one option. You’re talking about fourth, fifth and longevity. Get the fu– out of here. Team success should have nothing to do with this. Like Robert Horry.

There has to be a benchmark of games you played before you can even access. That’s what makes the green jacket. You have to be able to stand on your own. Take all the names off of the stats. Take all the rings off. And you by yourself.”

Arenas made it clear that if you were a player of a decent caliber only then you warrant a position in the Naismith memorial. Irrespective of how many rings you have won and how many points you’ve scored one needs to be of a certain caliber in order to be amongst the basketball elite.

Gilbert Arenas, who was a proficient shooter from the free throw line, is quite sure of the fact that he would have fared well if he was playing currently in the NBA.

Arenas said, “I also got to the free throw line like a James Harden, like Dwyane Wade. Damn, I wish I played in this era.”

Gilbert Arenas is convinced that he’ll be a dangerous man to deal with in today’s game. It’ll be interesting to see if Arenas can be a threat in today’s game or not.
