The NBA has been seeing its fair share of altercations in its first month back. The media has not stopped talking about various incidents that have already occurred. There are certain players in the NBA that you do not want to have an issue with, as they will not rest until they get back at you.

Jeff Teague played in the NBA for 11 years. After being in the NBA for so long, Teague understood that Charles Oakley is one of the few people that you do not want to mess with. During a recent episode of the Club 520 Podcast, Jeff Teague talked about the time Charles Oakley went berserk on Teague’s mentor. This started when Teague and the rest of the hosts were talking about players in the NBA they didn’t want to get into an altercation with. Teague then said that he did not want to face Charles Oakley.

Charles Oakley was not kind to Tyrone Hill

Jeff Teague revealed a story from his rookie season in the NBA. Teague was with the Atlanta Hawks at the time. He was trained by Tyrone Hill, who was also an assistant coach on the team. One of his teammates at the time was Duane Farrell.

According to Teague, Farrell let him know that Hill wouldn’t go into the gym as long as Charles Oakley was there. This was because Hill owed some money to Oakley. The home team works out on the court before the away team arrives and leaves when the away team gets there. But when the Hawks entered the gym, Charles Oakley was still on the court.

As soon as Hill stepped on the court, Oakley started throwing basketballs at Hill. Jeff Teague could not believe it at the time. They were grown-up men, but Oakley was screaming at Hill to give him back his money.

Apparently what Oakley was saying was along the lines of, “Give me my MFing money b***h.” Teague said, “I was like damn, this is an old a** man. I was crying, bro.”

Hill tried to calm Oakley down, but he kept persisting. Farrell was telling Teague at the time that Oakley might end up punching him. Then the security guard on the team came up and tried to calm people down. When Teague asked the security guard what happened, he revealed to him that Oakley had already beaten Hill, and this had been going on for some time now.

Oakley was not to be messed with

The history between Oakley and Tyrone Hill goes way back. Hill had to pay back money to Oakley as part of a gambling debt. He was once suspended for one game and fined $10,000 for confronting Tyrone Hill in 2001.

Oakley also got ejected from a game for slapping Hill during a preseason game. Additionally, Oakley was once suspended for three games and fined $15,000 for punching a player on the Los Angeles Clippers during a shootaround. Teague knew that his safest bet was to stay away from trouble. He retired from the NBA in 2021 after winning a championship with the Bucks.
