After being founded in 2021, LIV Golf has received good traction and popularity. The league has come a long way in the past few months as some of its players made it to the majors. Furthermore, PGA Tour reportedly agreed to a massive $3 billion merger with LIV Golf recently. As everything looked to be on the right track for the Saudi-backed league, things went south during the recent LIV event in Spain involving Brooks Koepka. With Koepka receiving some backlash for his comments, the words of NBA legend Charles Barkley could bring him some relief.

Sir Charles?needs no introduction among golf fans. Barkley has been a huge fan of the game for years and had competed in multiple celebrity tournaments over the years. Furthermore, he was close to signing with LIV Golf as well.

Charles Barkley praised Brooks Koepka

LIV Golf recently faced its first internal dispute in Spain when teammates Brooks Koepka and Matthew Wolff clashed. This has caused a huge blow to the team and the league’s image. Notably, Koepka’s comments about giving up on Wolff stirred a lot of controversy. Wolff recently stated that it was “heartbreaking” to find out Koepka’s comments through the news. He said that a team member would not want to hear such comments from the leader of the team.

Amidst this, Koepka can find some comfort in the past comments of Charles Barkley. The Round Mound of Rebound talked about the golfer during an episode of the Steam Room Podcast with Ernie Johnson. The Philadelphia 76ers legend started off by praising Michael Block for making the weekend fun.

Barkley then talked about Koepka saying, “And also Brooks Koepka. Man, I’m so proud of you to come back after what happened at the Masters. You were just awesome.”

Notably, the 1993 NBA MVP has always been a huge fan of LIV Golf and recently gave a mouthful to ‘disrespectful PGA Tour players’ while supporting Phil Mickelson.

LIV Golf wanted Barkley

Fans around the world love Charles Barkley for his antics and honest comments on TNT’s Inside the NBA alongside Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, Ernie Johnson, and others.

Barkley has become one of the best TV personalities in recent times and LIV Golf wanted him as well. For a period of time, Barkley contemplated joining LIV which excited a lot of fans. However, he ultimately decided not to take the opportunity and remained loyal to TNT.

The 11-time All-Star also recently secured a deal with CNN to run his own show with Gayle King. Titled ‘King Charles’, the show is slated to run later this year.
