The NFL made a major move with the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins game. They sold the exclusive right to air the game to Peacock. That didn’t sit well with Charles Barkley as he went off on the NFL, calling them “greedy pigs.” Turns out, the NFL’s decision to give exclusive rights to Peacock was a game changer.
According to Joe Pompliano, “Peacock paid the NFL $110 million for the exclusive rights to last night’s playoff game.” This in turn gave the media company the hype they had never seen before.
Pompliano reported, “As a result, they hit #1 overall on the app store, and their search volume on Google is currently 2x higher than at any other point in history.” Even though Barkley didn’t like what they did with this particular collaboration, it certainly seems like it has worked very well for both parties. Sir Charles wasn’t happy with the decision made by the NFL to give exclusive rights to Peacock and he didn’t mince his words when letting out his frustration over it.

He said, “Showing this game not on cable, that’s low class. That’s not cool, they’re just being greedy pigs. I’m glad some NFL players are taking some shots at them. I know the NFL is the biggest thing in the world, but to put this game on Peacock and make people have to buy Peacock, that’s just low class. I’m disgusted.” All this was said when Barkley wasn’t even going to watch the game due to his schedule.

He said that he would be busy shooting for the Capital One campaign that will air during the upcoming March Madness. However, that didn’t stop him from talking about the new move that the NFL made. Sir Charles said that ‘if‘ he had the time to watch the game, he would have chosen not to and would rather boycott it than conform to the new standards that they are trying to set in the realm of broadcasting.

He said, “They sold the game for 110 million. And I know that’s a lot of money, but the NFL is making $20 billion a year. To screw your fans like that, it’s just not cool at all…That’s just flat-out greedy and I’m disappointed in the NFL.” Despite his not being on board with the NFL’s idea, according to Pompliano’s report, it turned out pretty well for them. Going by the results, this might become a trend in the coming days, and that is not something that Sir Charles will appreciate.
