The Philadelphia Film Society hosts its film festival annually in October. This year, the festival is returning for the 32nd time. The event will be from October 19–29. A total of 60 movies will be screened during this time. This time, there are many movies that are related to the city as well.

One movie that is most looked forward to is Bradley Cooper’s ‘Maestro’. It’s the story of Leonard Bernstein, the legendary music composer who studied in Philadelphia in the 1940s. There will also be the movie “Stand Up & Shout: Songs From A Philly High School,” an HBO documentary co-produced by John Legend.

The movie’s director, Kyra Knox, was excited to have Allen Iverson support and promote this documentary. It meant a lot to her to have someone willing to shed light on the incidents happening in her city. Similarly, for Iverson, it was important to let the youngsters know there was hope for them.

Allen Iverson’s history with gun violence

In 2001, Iverson’s friend Rahsand Langford lost his life in an incident involving a gun with another person, Gregory W. Fox, who was caught, convicted, and sentenced to 43 years in prison. However, according to Gregory, it was Rahsand who escalated the incident, which led to the unfortunate outcome, and he was only defending himself.

According to PRLog, Gregory felt like Iverson’s high public status and his talking openly about the case stacked the odds against him. But Gregory did not hold back and fought against the decision, and he is now out of prison.

Gregory released a book, ‘Murder Vs. 43 Years of Freedom”. Here he went into detail about the incidents between him and Rahsand. He wants this book to help people who think there is no hope for them. Similarly, Iverson had the same intent in mind when he released the documentary. He wants people, especially young kids, to stay off the streets and know that life can be different for them as well.

Iverson had a tough life when he was younger. He grew up poor with a single mother. His biological father was not part of his upbringing. In 1993, Iverson was on trial for assaulting adults with chairs. Even though both parties were physically in the altercation at the bowling alley, only Iverson and his friends were brought to trial. Years later he has now changed his life and is now a highly respected person.
