Michael Jordan is always put on a pedestal by himself. But in the 1980s, there was one person who could compete with him on the biggest stage. The battles these two legends put on during every All-Star game were always a must-watch. Having won two Slam Dunk Contests each, not many people are better than them when it comes to dunking the ball and showmanship.

In 1998, Jordan went up against Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins in the slam dunk contest. To this day, people still debate if the judges made the correct decision. But Jordan himself revealed his true feelings about the outcome.

In an episode of the Knuckleheads Podcast, Dominique Wilkins revealed what Michael Jordan admitted to him after the All-Star game in 2022. The Slam Dunk Contests between Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins were always a sight to witness. They set the standard for what the event should be.

In 1998, they put out one of the most incredible Slam Dunk contests ever. Jordan came out with the win in the end. But people also believed that Wilkins could have won the event as well.

During the podcast, Wilkins revealed that they both treated each other with absolute respect. They never talked during the contest. And even after the contest was over, they didn’t talk about winning or losing to each other. All they did was shake hands after a good dunk during the event.

In 2022, celebrities and athletes gathered in Cleveland for the all-star weekend. Jordan and Wilkins ran into each other in the hotel where they stayed. But this time, things were different. As Wilkins got close to Jordan to greet him, Jordan admitted that Wilkins should have won the slam dunk contest in 1998.

Wilkins could just ask how he was and then jokingly say, “Lemme get the check that they gave you…you can call it even“. He goes on to mention that the two were from North Carolina, and they always had respect for each other. Wilkins showed his respect for Jordan in a recent interview where he was asked a question between Jordan and Scottie Pippen.

During a recent interview with VladTV, Wilkins was asked about the statement made by John Salley. John Sally said that Pippen was the most skilled player in the 1990s Chicago Bulls. Wilkins gave his respect to Pippen but then wanted to know what anyone hoped to gain from this comparison. But he soon revealed his honest feelings that Michael Jordan was the most skilled player on the Bulls in the 1990s.

Wilkins said that there are not a lot of players more skilled than Jordan, but he is definitely the most skilled on the Bulls in the championship runs.
