Tim Duncan is considered by many to be one of the greatest big men of all time. The Big Fundamental was the kind to make Kevin Garnett regret trash talking him. Despite his acclaim around the league, one NBA champion believes that he was better than Duncan in the late 2000s.

Putting himself in the same league as the San Antonio Spurs legend, Dwight Howard made some explosive comments in a YouTube video with his son. The 2020 NBA champion took it upon himself to remind his son how great he was during his glory days by bringing up Tim Duncan.

After unveiling his own podcast, D12 Above The Rim, Dwight Howard had a candid conversation with his son David. David revealed to Dwight since he also wants to become an NBA player in the future. Since then, Howard has been intensely training his youngest son.

During his time with the Orlando Magic, Howard was one of the best players in the world. He even led his team to the NBA finals. However, after falling out of the league over the last few seasons, the big man has been playing in the Taiwanese league recently. As such, the attention brought to his game has reduced.

As a method to make David understand his father’s impact on the game, Dwight Howard showed his son a highlight reel of him dominating against NBA greats like Tim Duncan, Amare Stoudemire, and Dirk Nowitzki. He also showed David all the accolades that he collected during his prime.

Howard stated, “They say that guy Tim Duncan is one of the greatest power forwards ever. And I demolished him every time I played against him. He was baby food to me. So was Dirk Nowitzki, so was Amare Stoudemire.

Although there were many dominant big men in the NBA at the time, Howard believes that he was undeniably a step ahead of everyone else in the late 2000s at one point.

Was Dwight Howard better than Duncan in his prime?

In the late 2000s, both Howard and Duncan were the main driving forces on their team. The only difference that people could note is that while Howard was doing things on his own to lift his team up, Duncan’s plays were more team-oriented.

In other ways too, Tim Duncan was a difficult opponent to face. He dictated the flow of the game with his inside presence, and scoring against the San Antonio Spurs with Duncan defending was a hard task. While Howard won three DPOY awards, the Big Fundamental has 15 all-defensive team selections, which is the most in NBA history.
