Philadelphia 76ers legend Charles Barkley is known for both his outstanding performance on the basketball floor as well the antics outside of it. The athlete is known for speaking his mind and presenting ruthless judgments to others. However, his brutal honesty is often misunderstood by people and fans. A famed NBA player and analyst revealed how people misinterpret the player’s honest remarks.

Controversy has kind of become synonymous with Chuck. His words always manage to gain people’s attention, but sometimes for the wrong reasons. Recently on a popular talk show, The Jet shined the spotlight on Barkley’s honest nature.

Charles Barkley is misunderstood by the people

Sir Charles has never held himself back from saying what he thinks. His fans have always admired the honesty of the player. However, that quality landed him in hot water as well. Barkley’s friend and co-host, Houston Rockets legend, Kenny Smith shares his opinion.

In a talk show, The Jet revealed, “I always say Charles is. He is a flashlight and I know you all had some beef, everybody has some beef too but you can never have beef with Charles in this way. I would say because he looks at life through a flashlight and not a flood light.”

He explained how it’s his job to put the floodlight on a situation and bring a bigger picture to the front while Barkley directly points out the things.

He continued, “He has an accuracy point to it that will rub you the wrong way…I think he gets too much credit sometimes and then sometimes I think he gets too much the other way. But he’s accurate all the time, he’s a flashlight.”

Smith has also tried to help clear the air between Barkley and Michael Jordan. The 2-time NBA champion played with Jordan in the 1980s and has been the co-host on TNT with Chuck. As a mutual friend, he advised the players to end their feuding.

The Round Mound of Rebound is no stranger to controversy. His comments have always stirred the pot.

Years ago, when the Chuckster criticized the Chicago Bulls legend for his management work, things didn’t go well between the duo.

It all began when Barkley called out MJ’s poor management skills with the Charlotte Hornets. He also pointed out how the player was surrounding himself with incompetent people who were dragging down his business. However, His Airness didn’t take the criticism well.

Apparently, Jordan called the 11-time All-star to express his disappointment. And that was the end of their friendship.
