Hours after LeBron James Opened up About ‘Selfish Decision’, ‘Heat Brother’ Dwyane Wade’s Triumphant Celebrations Resurface on the Internet

LeBron James; once a kid from Akron, Ohio. Now, a household name. In the 20 years that he has spent in the NBA, the 19× All-Star has broken several records, created a few of his own and cemented himself as the only competitor to Michael Jordan for the title of the ‘GOAT’. Along with 4 championships, he has picked up more than his fair share of critics along the way.

Now with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron recently opened up about a decision he made that was widely reported as ‘selfish’. At the same time, an old clip featuring a former NBA player celebrating the very same decision has resurfaced. Let’s dive in.

LeBron James talks about ‘The Decision’

It’s not often that NBA Players reflect on a decision they made years ago. LeBron James, however, felt the need to clear the air regarding his past choices. In an interview with ESPN,  the King opened up about a decade-old move. ‘The Decision’ was a TV special held on the 8 of July, 2010. It took place a week after James had left the Cleveland Cavaliers and become an unrestricted free agent.

During the interview, when asked about the “answer to the question everybody wants to know” LeBron uttered the sentence that would change the course of his career trajectory and of the NBA:

“In this fall……man, this is very tough. In this fall I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.”

As the interview approached its 13 anniversary, LeBron James reflected on the choice that placed him on the 2011 ‘Most Disliked NBA Players’ list of Forbes.

“I was 25 years old and I wanted to be liked by everybody,” confessed LeBron.

He talked about how he was deeply affected by what other people were writing and saying about him during that time. The four-time MVP also added that ‘selfish’ is the last thing that he would call himself.

LeBron James would go on to play with Miami for 4 years before returning to the Cavaliers in 2014.

Dwyane Wade celebrates ‘The Decision’

‘The Decision’s anniversary brought out a response from LeBron. At the same time, it also resurfaced an old video, taken on the day of the interview. The video featured Former NBA player Dwyane Wade watching an ESPN show at a ‘Decision Party’.

Wade revealed that he wasn’t this nervous during his own draft. Dwyane and the people around him were all watching LeBron’s ‘The Decision’ interview with keen interest. Cheers erupted from all sides when the player announced who he would be joining.

Two days prior to LeBron’s announcement, NBA Legend Dwyane Wade had announced the decision to re-sign with the Miami Heat as well. Reeling from the fact that the duo would be on the same team, Wade was as ecstatic as he could be.

“Oh Man. It’s Showtime,” exclaimed LeBron’s soon-to-be ‘Heat Brother’.

With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on their side, the Miami Heat emerged as a ‘super team’ for the next four years. Though that time period may have brought its woes for the player, with Wade having to bear some brunt that came from LeBron’s decision, no one can deny the impact it had on the history of the NBA. And of course, in the city of Miami.
