Women’s basketball is making the much-needed noise. One of the basketball stars taking the lead is Caitlin Clark. The 22-year-old’s steady ascent to the top is gaining people’s attention as fast as she is breaking records. Impressed by the star’s remarkable and stunning game, NBA giant Charles Barkley also extended his wishes. During the conversation, the legend also took a look back at the history of how long women athletes were overlooked and not credited enough. 

With an increasing focus on the sport, even more exceptional talents and hidden gems are unraveled. Praising Clark’s exceptional talent and dedication, Barkley shared, “Shoutout to Cailtin Clark…I can’t wait to watch you play in person. You are fantastic, what you are doing for women’s sport, college basketball is amazing.”

Furthermore, he also praised Lynette Woodard, whose record for most points in college basketball was broken by the 22-year-old. During the Hawkeyes’ massive 108-60 victory over Minnesota, the IOWA guard broke Woodard’s record of 3,649 points. Talking about her recent achievement, Barkley also predicted how she will soon break Pearl Moore’s record as well.

He elaborated, “I think you’re gonna pass Pearl Moore sometime this weekend. You passed Lynette- shoutout to Lynette Woodard one of the most awesome ladies. How bad did we treat women that these records didn’t count?… Shoutout to Lynette and Pearl for holding that record for so long.”

Caitlin Clark breaks Pete Maravich’s record 

Clark broke Kelsey Plum’s previous record of 3,527 career points in a 106-89 game against the Michigan Wolverines. It was only a matter of time before Clark successfully broke the all-time points record in NCAA basketball, achieving this feat for both men’s and women’s categories.

With 3685 points, she also broke Pete Maravich’s old record of 3,667 points which he set while playing at the Louisiana State for three seasons from 1967 to 1970. Speaking of Clark’s game, Woodard stated, “It’s a great time for women’s basketball. Caitlin is leading the way. As she was chipping away, I said records are made to be broken.”

Furthermore, she added, “Also, they’re made to be honored. Because of her, my records are being honored. She’s gone beyond that now, she’s gone beyond Pete … I passed her the baton to go ahead and burst through that ceiling, and I’m so happy for her.”
