Michael Jordan is among the most accomplished athletes in the world. Apart from his on-court success, Jordan has excelled outside the court as well. For many years, he was the only NBA athlete with a billionaire status. Only recently, he was joined by two other NBA athletes on the list. LeBron James in 2022, and Magic Johnson only two weeks ago, were the last ones to make it into the elite athletes list.

However, despite Jordan’s billions, it seems like his son has been in a financial crunch. As per several reports, the 32-year-old owed over $150k to American Express, which led to a lawsuit. Although the lawsuit is now settled, how did he pay off that bill, and what led him to this situation?

Michael Jordan’s son’s lawsuit

Marcus Jordan, especially in recent years has come up into his own. He is regularly in the news, largely due to his relationship with Larsa Pippen, Michael’s ex-teammate Scottie Pippen’s ex-wife. Though the two have kept their relationship extremely public and have spilled intimate details, their bond seems to have only strengthened with time. Recently, wedding rumors have been doing the rounds and Marcus and Larsa have only helped fanned the flames further. Amidst the alleged wedding preparations, Marcus found himself in a lawsuit regarding unpaid credit card bills.

It was recently reported that Marcus owed over $150k in unpaid credit card bills. He has been a Business Platinum Card holder since 2016 and as per American Express, used to be regular with the payments. However, in 2022, he stopped paying his monthly bills, which led to a massive pile-up. After the lawsuit came into play, Marcus managed to reach a settlement with the company and is now obligated to pay $10k installments until the entire amount is recovered. His failure to repay the bills aligns with the timeline of his relationship with Larsa, with whom he intends to get married.

It has been pretty clear since the beginning that MJ is not okay with his son’s relationship. While there can be several factors at play, the most obvious one seems to be the fact that Larsa is Scottie’s ex-wife. Regardless, Marcus has made a special request to his dad, despite his disapproval of the relationship. Marcus has said that he would want to have his father as his best man at his wedding. The 32-year-old had said that since he was the best man at MJ’s wedding, it’d be great if his father returned the favor.

Whether Marcus will get his wish fulfilled, we’ll know eventually. However, it does not seem likely at this time.
