Despite being one of the most valuable franchises in the NBA, the New York Knicks don’t have much to show for it. Their last Finals appearance was in 1999 and due to multiple reasons since, they have become one of the most hated franchises in the country. Some believe the reason is Knicks fans over-hyping the team despite not having much to show for. Others believe the reason is bad front office decisions, despite having appropriate resources. It turns out Miami Heat icon and close friend of former Knicks great Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade too is not a fan of the franchise.

On his The Why with Dwyane Wade podcast, the 3x champ stated, “I did not like New York neither. Can’t stand the Knicks.” Notably, the 42-year-old was on the podcast with Candace Parker. The statement from Wade not being able to withstand the Knicks came after a discussion emerged on the podcast regarding the ex-Heat icon’s idols. The first name for The Flash was Michael Jordan. He also mentioned looking up to Scottie Pippen along with that line-up of Chicago Bulls.

“But as I got older and I was able to get out of my MJ love phase, then I opened it up a little bit,” Wade stated. The alternative names included Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant, as stated by the Heat legend. He spotlighted he could only enjoy watching the players who were his own size and with ones with whom he could see his style of game matching.

The 3x NBA champion also mentioned this to be the reason he did not really watch much of ex-New York Knicks star Patrick Ewing. “That wasn’t going to be my game,” he stated. It was after this that Wade revealed he could not stand the Knicks.

This was another reason for him to not watch Patrick Ewing. However, he did not give a reason behind his statement.

It is worth mentioning that Wade does not have any personal grudge against the Knicks’ players. In fact, he and former Knicks star Carmelo Anthony have been close friends for a long time now. Their circle also includes LeBron James and Chris Paul. All four of them together are popularly known as the Banana Boat Crew. But Wade sure has made his dislike of the Knicks quite evident with this podcast.

One reason behind this can be the 2010 free agency. There were rumors of Wade possibly joining the Knicks after he became a free agent that summer. However, he denied all such rumors as he wanted to stick with the Heat. “I’m not thinking about the Knicks or the Nets. Only when we play them,” he stated back then. And we know how that ended.
