“I owe you a debt of gratitude that I’ll never be able to repay,” said Dwyane Wade, dedicating his achievement to his father in his Hall of Fame enshrinement speech. Nearly a year after sharing this unforgettable moment with Dwyane Wade Sr., the father-son duo still sheds tears for the profound bond they share.

And this is something Dwyane Wade voiced in a recent episode of ‘The Why with Dwyane Wade’. Wade sat with his father to share insights about the NBA world, where they also touched upon the Miami Heat star’s Hall of Fame speech he delivered last year at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The glimpse of the interview was then posted on the official podcast channel titled ‘The Wine Down: Dwyane Wade Sr. vs. Jr.‘. As Dwyane Wade came across his Hall of Fame speech after 286 days, he said, “Yeah, so I did the speech. Obviously, I practiced it over and over. And then I watched it after that night when I got back, once we got back from the party and everything.”

He added, “I cried like a baby. I cried for like three, four hours after I got home. I couldn’t stop crying.” But, what made Dwyane Wade cry?

Dwyane Wade’s powerful speech

In the podcast itself, Dwyane Wade unveiled the reason for his tears, stating, “And the reason is because, as my dad just said, like I wrote that speech to my father, but I wrote that speech to fathers. Because I deal with the same things and no one cares what the father goes through. I’m just being real. Like, it’s emotional for me to even think about.

However, Wade wasn’t the only one to share his response after the speech. Dwyane Wade Sr. said, “That moment was amazing, that speech, bro. But for me, I felt like that speech opened the door for all the fathers of America. Like, we all heard that speech and we all cried to that speech.

Moving on, Wade Sr. added, “But for everybody that’s been through so much in life as far as dads, you know, go, I thought that that speech paved the way for all us dads across the globe.” As expected, the response from Wade and his dad caught fire, garnering the attention of millions across the basketball world.
