NBA fans are known for being the loudest supporters. Some are quite passionate about the game. This is the only way that fans can become an integral part of the game. However, there are quite a few questionable fanbases that take matters into their own hands. Vernon Maxwell once encountered such a terrible incident with a Portland fan. After hitting the fan sitting courtside, he was ejected and suspended from the game.

After 29 years, Maxwell recounted how one fan, during the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers matchup, allegedly made hurtful comments about his stillborn child, which understandably left him upset. When he asked the security guards to intervene, they unfortunately refused, saying that the fan had paid to be on courtside. At some point, Maxwell lost his cool. He quietly walked up eight rows and slapped the fan.

“I kept telling this n***. So, I got up. And when I got up, n****, I was like, man, get your b***h a** out of the way. I shoved that n**** about over there to the goddamn whiskey bar. I walked patiently. I slapped the s**t out of him,” Maxwell said on the Club 520 podcast. Although he regretted doing it, he was suspended for 10 games, and fined $20,000.

After his teammate tried to stop him, Maxwell calmly returned to his seat. Meanwhile, the fan, named Steve George, denied the allegations. However, the incident was witnessed by many people.

Throwing drinks or making hurtful comments to distract opponent team players is common among fans. Some even continue to boo players, regardless of their improvement. But, it’s important to remember that one player doesn’t define the entire crowd. However, there is one franchise that is widely discredited for its fanbase.

Do the Boston Celtics have the worst fanbase?

The Boston Celtics fans have been ranked as the worst fanbase by many players. What’s worse? Some local surveys show the same. But, is there any truth to this? The fans do have a rather negative history. Back in 1963, it was revealed that some fans allegedly broke into Bill Russell’s house while he was out of town and vandalized it.

When Celtics star and champion Jaylen Brown was asked about this, he clarified that it’s not the entire fanbase, but rather a portion of it that continuously criticizes the players. “I definitely think there’s a group or an amount within the Celtic nation that is extremely toxic and does not want to see athletes use their platform, or they just want you to play basketball and entertain and go home. And that’s a problem to me,” Brown said.

Unfortunately, the entire fanbase has to bear the brunt of some fans’ rude behavior.
