Kobe Bryant‘s legacy has pushed countless people to strive for excellence. His dedication to go above and beyond and to do the extraordinary had an impact on many friends and foes. His former rival Dwyane Wade is also one of them. Ahead of the 96th Academy Awards, the Flash sat down with Jimmy Fallon to talk about his new podcast, the Oscar-nominated docuseries, The Barber of Little Rock, and more.

During the conversation, the 3x champion revealed that witnessing Bryant’s accomplishments, he was also inspired to achieve more. Back in 2018, Bryant achieved a historic milestone by being the first former professional athlete nominated for and securing an Academy Award for his animated film ‘Dear Basketball‘.
When Fallon asked him about Bryant’s feat, Wade said that he couldn’t lose to his former rival. Explaining his emotions, he said, “I remember when Kobe won his Oscar. One, it showed me and it taught me, like, if you get behind something that you’re really passionate about, that people can feel your heartbeat through it, then great things can happen.”

The Miami Heat icon added, “I was sitting there knowing that my time was coming. I was like, well, I guess I got to go win an Oscar now. I mean, I’m trying not to get left too far behind in all the accolades.”

In an effort to keep up with Bryant, Wade is also seen exploring numerous ventures. Now, he is getting recognized for all his hard work.

As an executive producer, Wade’s company, 59th, and Prairie Entertainment’s investment in the short film, ‘The Barber of Little Rock,’ has proven to be a commendable decision. Just recently, the movie was acquired by The New Yorker. The short film conveys a powerful message through the story of barber Arlo Washington’s life.

For the 3x NBA champion, being part of the group that brought Washington’s story to life represents a meaningful contribution. Winning the Oscars would add another feather to his collection of accolades. Furthermore, the film will receive the recognition and attention it deserves.
