.Before he retired, Dwyane Wade was already a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame. With scoring, defense and an all-in-all spectacular NBA career on his record, the three-time champion earned his place in the history books. A strong advocate for social justice, Wade’s become a champion for several issues since retirement. His evolving persona as a changemaker has even caught the eye of certain people in office.

Wade has gone from NBA player, to team owner, to entrepreneur, and activist. Could there be a government title in the future? A good chunk of the population is welcome to it. But is Wade? The New York Times tried to find out.

The latest buzz in political circles is that the Democratic Party is hoping to utilize the fame of NBA stars with a strong social voice. In May, speculation was rife that party operatives in Florida approached the likes of Dwyane Wade and Grant Hill. Apparently, they wanted the former athletes to lend their star power to the democratic senate campaign.

NYTimes couldn’t skip this subject when they interviewed Dwyane Wade amid his new Hall of Fame honor. They started off by confirming if it was true that Florida Democrats were courting him. When asked if he was approached to run for office, Wade stated a straightforward, “Yes.”

The interviewer pressed him to elaborate on the initial approach. He said it was casual. “I mean, it’s just conversation. ‘Hey, you would be good for,’ ‘Hey, we can see you in,’ ‘We would love to have you in,’” he explained.

Over the years, Wade and Gabrielle have become more vocal about their activism. Since the NBA champion’s daughter, Zaya, came out as transgender, they’ve been trying their hardest to make the world a better place for her and other kids like her.

Wade has recently spoken about how families of trans people have given their heartwarming appreciation for their support. Why wouldn’t anyone want a former NBA star with strong activism in public office?

Wade’s speculated political run

Wade did something special when he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame – he dedicated it to his fans. If that doesn’t speak of the power of The Flash to move masses, then we don’t know what is.

That’s just D-Wade, as he told NYTimes, “It’s things that I’m passionate about that I will speak out on and speak up for. And so I don’t play the politician games. I don’t know a lot about it.

Nonetheless, his own influence is not lost on him. And he puts it to good use.

I have a role as an American citizen and as a known person to be able to highlight and speak on things that other people may not be able to.

But that didn’t answer if the Hall of Famer is indeed considering running for Senate now or in the future. When the interviewer pressed, Wade only laughed.
