He’s taken a battering from the ‘Bad Boys’ and that’s why Charles Barkley holds the franchise to a high standard. The current status of the Detroit Pistons has beyond disappointed him. The team’s early exit from the in-season tournament spurred Chuck to rant about it on TNT. He’s so infuriated about it, he even messed up a few facts. Fortunately, the TNT crew is always there to correct him.

The Pistons are out of the in-season tournament along with three other teams. Barkley has been of the opinion that the old Bad Boys wouldn’t have let this happen.

The Detroit Pistons had a more-than-disappointing season after suffering their 12th straight loss. The Denver Nuggets swept them in a 107-103, eliminating Detroit from the in-season tournament. Other than fans, Charles Barkley was extremely frustrated with how they played too.

Kenny Smith asked what’s wrong with the Pistons and he said that the team lost “13” straight games. They corrected him that it’s 12 but that doesn’t salvage the team’s reputation. Barkley went as far as to name friends living in Detroit who he says will not be watching the Pistons games again.

“Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars rolling over their grave watching the Pistons play,” Barkley said on TNT, surprising his co-analysts. To be clear, Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars are nowhere near any graves. Chuck’s just trying to make a point.

Denver overcame Nikola Jokic‘s ejection with the help of Reggie Jackson who made 21 points and six assists. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20 more points for the team.

Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 27 points but it wasn’t enough for the team to go forward. Detroit, Washington, San Antonio, and Memphis have been mathematically eliminated from the in-season tournament so far. To some, these eliminations have been hard to digest.

The Pistons were gasoline to a hot-headed prime Barkley. Sir Charles’ most epic brawl was in a 1990 game between Philadelphia and Detroit.

It was peak ‘Bad Boys’ era with the likes of Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and of course, Bill Laimbeer. There was that shocking moment that Chuck punched the daylights out of Laimbeer mid-game.

Despite his fiery clashes with Detroit in his heyday, Barkley has immense respect for the pillars of the Bad Boys, especially Isiah Thomas. He was heatedly defending Thomas since The Last Dance debacle. He even stated that Stephen Curry wouldn’t stand a chance to the ‘Bad Boy Pistons’.

Whatever Barkley feels, there’s no hope for this team in the in-season tournament. They’d have to prove him wrong another time.

I was 7 when I saw 'Space Jam' but didn't know till the third rewatch the lead actor is actually a living basketball legend. It was while studying journalism that my friend would go on about the Warriors from Golden State. Keen on athletes' personas outside their arenas, it was Stephen Curry's confidence and philanthropy that drew me to follow the news on NBA pros and explore sports media.
