Isiah Thomas has learned from his mistake and is setting the records straight whenever he gets the chance on X. The story of being blindsided by the comment from Michael Jordan on ‘The Last Dance’ and his stance of needing an apology on air is much known. But that isn’t the only instance Thomas wants to rectify. In the same docuseries, MJ was portrayed as the hero, and Jerry Krause, somewhat an antagonist. The Pistons legend isn’t of the same view.

Krause was largely instrumental in building the dynasty that helped Michael Jordan to his 6 championships. In ‘The Last Dance,’ the focus was on the friction between players and the front office. Plus, Krause’s quote, “Players and coaches alone don’t win championships” further fueled the argument, as MJ would share his disdain for the comment. The Chicago Bulls did create their dynasty, but as per Thomas, they weren’t the best team.

You have never heard the Lakers or Celtics say at their peak, the Bulls were a better team. Those two teams are 1 and 2 best ever at their peak.” Thomas replied to an X user, who claimed none of the Celtics’ players would think they couldn’t beat the Bulls at their peak. And when another fan suggested Krause built a winning team around MJ the way it had been done before with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, or Thomas himself, the Pistons icon wouldn’t argue either.

I have great respect for Jerry Krause. He was a genius who deserved way more respect than the Bulls sadly gave him,” he penned.

Michael Jordan, Phil Jackson, and Scottie Pippen weren’t all fans of Kraus as evident from the documentary. The GM did not like the sole credit MJ was receiving and it wasn’t of any help the champion was sour toward him. Jordan had nicknamed Krause ‘crumbs’ and was occasionally seen making fun of him.

The GM’s decisions did go awry after 1998 and with Scottie Pippen’s contract but his contributions before weren’t as noticed either. The bad blood then known, was influential enough to have fans turn against Krause even in his absence.

Celebrating the Ring of Honor at halftime earlier this year during the match against the Warriors, Thelma Krause and family were in attendance since Jerry passed away in 2017. But as the 1990s Bulls’ architect’s name was announced, the crowd would answer it with booing. Steve Kerr, a former Bulls champion under Krause, who was present in the arena due to the Warriors’ game, did not mince his words for the crowd.

Isiah Thomas bats for Jerry Krause

I cannot believe it,” Kerr told reporters after the game. “I’m devastated for Thelma, for the Krause family. What can we possibly be thinking? And you have to understand, when you hear boos, it’s not all of them, right? The fans who booed, they know who they are. To me, it’s absolutely shameful and I’m devastated by that.

Krause worked as the Bulls general manager from 1985 to 2003, joining the year after the Michael Jordan draft. In the docuseries, Krause famously told Jackson, in the final year of his contract, that he wouldn’t return to coach the Bulls after 1998 even if the team went undefeated.

So fans have polarizing reactions to Krause, but Isiah Thomas isn’t a fan of it. “I can argue that Jerry Krause, in Basketball, was the Best general manager in Chicago’s sports history, as well as in football, Baseball, Hockey, etc.

Krause had reportedly conducted 37 trades to get the first championship, including Pippen himself. He would also bring in Kerr, Dennis Rodman, Bison Dele, and John Paxon for the Bulls’ peak. Sure a few hiccups later on but Thomas, unlike many, is here to notice the good.
