The feud between Gilbert Arenas and LeBron James is well-known. The rivalry escalated during the year 2003, when LeBron was just out of high school and the hype that was raised around him had already made him enormous.

During the recent podcast Gils Arena, Gilbert Arenas recalled in 2006, when Jay-Z rapped and he was part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets, the song “Public Service Announcement” was released. The words in this song which seemed tailored for Arenas were “the bad conscience hurts the integrity of the league.”:

I’m like LeBron James / You like them Sean St. Louis/ Soulja Boy tell me what you gon’ do now

As proof, there is a quote from Soulja Boy, a young rapper that used ringtone rap as his trademark, to mock Arenas’ supposed flippancy towards being not as popular as LeBron. Arenas, a professional with bombastic behavior and theatrical court activities cited himself as the main target of the remark.

Arenas did not get pulled down by the barb but decided to act against the opponent. He changed the game, becoming a master of shooting and creating his own dodging technique which became his dynamite crossover. Arenas’s performance the next season was even more impressive as he averaged 31.0 points per game, more points than in any of his previous years. He was named among the best offensive players in the league.

The Post was even more exciting since he, as the scorer of the Washington Wizards led the wild team to an unexpected playoff. Arenas’ redemption became not only relatable but hypnotic. He found himself as one of the best in the NBA as he was recently named one of the team’s All-NBA starters and a fan-favorite.

The off-court rivalry of Arenas and LeBron has deepened to the point that it has become an actual point of contention. Arenas’ teams Wizards and later the Orlando Magic played a lot of playoff games against LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers, the team he was playing with at that time. The combats were outrageous, with the two stars exchanging Performers of the Times and verbal lashing.

While the on-court rush faded eventually, reminiscing about Jay-Z’s diss and Arenas’ subsequent mutation persists as a source of amusement, thanks to the NBA fans. It is a reminder to fans that it is often the situations created by the surroundings and circumstances that inspire them to shine and show how talented they are.

Arenas left him at a stage where he no longer wore the crown. This situation unfortunately made him a better player more intensively and the announcement of denial challenged him to prove them wrong. He went on to carve out another legendary past even though he played in the same team.
