I really don’t give a f**k”- JJ Redick doesn’t care about any misconceptions people may have about him regarding the LA Lakers HC position. However, former LeBron James teammate had earlier called the position “a death sentence”. Channing Frye has once again warned the 29th coach in the Lakers’ history to be mindful of his approach.

Road Trippin’ latest episode, Richard Jefferson said that the questions raised on the coaching ability are lame. “Jason Kidd didn’t have any coaching experience. You know, there are people that have done this. You know, there’s many players that have stepped into that role. It doesn’t matter.” RJ was definitely in JJ Redick’s camp for support and the Road Trippin crew agreed.

I think JJ will be fine. The problem is JJ’s gonna make a mistake and everyone’s gonna crush him,Frye said, via Road Trippin’. He continued, “He’s (Redick) gonna lose them a game. And now most coaches will lose a team, a game but not every coach comes from being on TV to become a coach. So his microscope is gonna be crazy.” Redick’s expletive statement on critics already created news. So when he steps on the court as a coach, the eyes will be on him. Previous coach Darvin Ham had to go through similar scrutiny when the video featuring LeBron James went viral. The video was from 2023, the ‘Akron Hammer’ was heard saying “I got it, I got it…Give me the board!” And throughout the last season, there were clips in which LeBron wasn’t pleased with the previous coach’s tactics. Channing Frye also reiterated the point that there could be mistakes. But he urged that the expectations should be tempered as Redick won’t always be correct.

The former champion also raised questions about the current roster of the Lakers. He thinks that a lot of work needs to be done for them to be a contender. Previously, Frye had raised questions and advised Redick to not take the Lakers’ job.

Channing Frye was not a fan of JJ Redick jumping the gun

“To be honest, I think it’s a death sentence. I think he’s jumping on a grenade…I know for a fact JJ Redick is a coach. But taking that job, I just don’t know. That’s a lot,” Channing Frye spoke to Lauren Jbara one month ago when the rumors of Redick being the job were rampant. The 41-year-old even said that managing the locker rooms and the ego could be an issue for the former Duke graduate.

And now once again on the Road Trippin’ podcast, he repeated the same point. There are a lot of moving pieces for Redick to get accustomed to. With the #17 pick Dalton Knecht, Jovan Buha shared Rob Pelinka’s action plan on X. “Rob Pelinka said coach JJ Redick immediately began drawing up pindowns and ATO sets on a whiteboard for Knecht for next season.”

With the draft day ending in a few hours, JJ Redick’s action plan would become more clear today. The question of the night would be Bronny James’ future and whether he will be picked by Purple and Gold as the 55th pick. LeBron’s future is also in the air as he still has time to accept the $51.4 million player option in 2 days.
