Doc Rivers signed a three-year deal for the ABC/ESPN’s NBA Finals. However, after the first three months, Rivers had to leave his job as he was offered an opportunity to coach the Milwaukee Bucks. Soon he also made it into the All-Star lineup as he was handed the responsibility of coaching the Eastern Conference.

With Rivers making his presence felt in the league once again, his ESPN spot was left vacant. However, reports suggest that JJ Redick is set to fill in Rivers’ shoes.

As per The Athletic, JJ Redick will join Mike Breen and Doris Burke. Redick has been in the media business for some time now and his career graph has been reaching new heights. Previously he was a part of ESPN’s team, and he still runs a successful podcast The Old Man & The Three. Redick’s rise in the media business has been rapid and the new opportunity will turn out to be another feather in his cap. ESPN is yet to comment on this new situation.

Rivers on the other hand got another chance to coach an NBA team, and that too one of the best-performing teams in the East. His tenure with the Bucks is a result of what happened with Adrian Griffin as the Bucks coach.

Doc Rivers’s All-Star controversy

Griffin was fired from the Bucks coaching position after 43 games into the season. In that time he kept the record of 30-13 with the team which wasn’t something a coach could lose his job over. However, the organization decided that it was time to bring in another man for the job and Rivers was the next best choice for the Bucks. With the All-Star event approaching, the Eastern Conference needed someone to coach the team and once again, Rivers was the next best option.

As per the rules, a coach cannot go into an All-Star game back to back years. So the position and honor that would’ve gone to Joe Mazzulla as the coach of the Boston Celtics was given to Rivers. Mazzulla coached the All-Star team the previous year as well. However, Rivers never denied that the person who should’ve been given this opportunity was Griffin. He even stated that he would share the All-Star ring with the ex-Bucks coach.
